Guest Phil H
Its confirmed, in fact John Mead of Penzance asked for a Friday nighter before the full time whistle against Goonhavern ! Exmouth Tues night (16/10) Porthleven & Newton Abbot both Weds night (17/10) Penzance Fri night (19/10) Crediton V Buckland on tomorow night, IF Crediton win then that tie will also be Fri 19/10, if Buckland win then it will be on the Saturday (20/10)
Mike Odgers
Falmouth making their first appearance at Trungle Parc since 1984 were good value for this 1st.Rd.League cup tie. Mousehole were two goals down in the opening quarter as they seemed nervous and overawed by the passing and movement of a determined Falmouth unit eager to put right their dismal Vase performance. After one good save Ian Chatfield could only parry a shot from Kain Bond after 8minutes leaving Matt Cussack to follow up and tuck away. Andy Bowker was instrumental in most forward play and it was fitting he should score the goal of the game on 22minutes by cutting in from the right flank to let fly with a left foot dipper. Disappointingly for the home fans top scorer Emil Ivanov limped off after 31mins. The home team were beginning to ac customise to the pace in the hot conditions and late in the half Mark George should have done better with a header and then was denied by the upright. The second half saw Mousehole having their best spell by finding their players more easily but getting an opening made difficult where central defenders Brinton Nute and captain Rob Francis(making his 50th app.) were dominant. The tie was virtually sealed after65 minutes when Kain Bond raced through with his shot being helped into the roof of the net by Gerens James. A deserved goal was greeted by the Green/White supporters after 83mins.Nute the town defender was being picked up several times by referee for Ben Lugg for leaning and from the deep free kick the ball was nodded back by Sub.Jowan May leaving Tony Cape(sub.and stand in skipper) to stab the ball home. Within 4minute Falmouth had the final say when Bond set up another Sub.Fergus Nevin with a sweet left foot strike inside the near post. Such was Falmouth 's superiority it took Mousehole to the closing minutes to force their first corner.
Paul
Football on a friday night in Cornwall makes great sense to me. Theres no live prem or champs league matches. People who want to watch another match on the saturday can or play football etc still can. St Blazey played Parkway away on a friday and the crowd was about 279 i think. Has it proved to pull crowds at other grounds? More Friday night games I hope.
Dave Deacon
Going by the attendance for Penzance v Goonhavern, I would say the jury are still out!
Guest Phil H
I don't quite understand the caution Dave, The attendance was Penzances 2nd highest of the season and was 3 times the average for watching Goonhavern away from home ! Bodmin have Friday nights this week V St Blazey and on the 26th V Tavistock, with Penzance on the 19th it means we will get a much truer position as to how Fridays affect crowds in Cornwall. Last weekend in Devon people wondered why Crediton would volunteer to stage games on both Friday and Monday, the 2 games bought in crowds of 108 & 119, considering Crediton are bottom of Div 1 East and on Saturdays they had crowds this season of 64, 66 & 67 it does show a trend that should be given every chance of working and not dismissed based on not being as many as you thought would watch ! Maybe you could get Radio Cornwall to do a Friday night show ! Phil H PS - Hope to see you at Porthleven on Weds nite, have an idea for your Saturday show ! neil phillips
Although nearly all of Towns supporters and commitee said it on Saturday im surprised no-one has actually said it on here, but what a great job Mousehole commitee have done to their ground.Changing rooms were good and a 100% improvement on the cr@p that was there before. The playing surface was excellent and they probably wont play on anything as good this season (apart from Penryn). Hats off and a big pat on the back to Mousehole afc.
