Division 1

Grampound 1-0 Altarnun

the goal difference should really have been a lot more with the home side missing quite a few and the visiting goalkeeper making some excellent saves, including a penalty.

Grampound scorer : Lee Budge, with about 12 minutes to go. Penalty missed about 5 minutes later.

A very scrappy but hard fought game with i believe the 3 points going the right way a penalty mid way through the second half secured the points GHOSTED into the bottom right corner by bobby lee johns .we should have had more only stopped by some good defending and a couple of good saves not really troubled at the back apart from the last 10 when major pushed for an equalizer but to no avail .Els ,the cleanest keeper in the duchy league had couple of shots to save but nothing to worry him.Gutted i couldn't play well done to the boys and good luck to major for the rest of the season.

JJ Jones Duchy Football League from Michael Newcombe

Premier Division leaders Saltash United suffered a sensational 4-0 home defeat by St.Newlyn East and now only stay at the top on goal difference. On a run of six successive wins the hosts were stunned by a brace apiece from Ryan Polmounter and Liam Dent. St.Newlyn East after a poor start to the season are now up to fourth place.

AFC St.Austell move level after beating Calstock 4-1. Darren Roose rounded the keeper to give them a first half lead. Phil Hutchings doubled the advantage from the penalty spot after the interval and a Roose tap in had then well ahead. Calstock battled and got a goal back before being sunk by Dan Lean half volley.

Fowey United still have high hopes of retaining their crown. Josh Frampton scored a brace in an emphatic 6-1 victory over Torpoint Athletic. Jamie Martin, Rory Barnicle, Anthony Hillman and Sam Marchant completed the home scoring with Tom Rothwell replying.

Mevagissey came from three goals down to secure a home draw with St.Cleer, but see it as two points dropped in their title challenge. James Colwill scored a brace for the visitors with Mevagissey then putting through their own net with thirty minutes on the clock, but the hosts were given a lifeline before half time when Alex Isted returned the compliment with an own goal. The second half was evenly fought, but Richard James reduced the deficit to one goal, and then a storming header from Ben Rothwell gave Mevagissey a point.

St.Columb Major’s poor second part of the season continued with a 6-3 home defeat to Bodmin Saints. Their defence was a comedy of errors and gifted Dave Crawford an opening goal after three minutes. Another defensive mistake on seventeen minutes gave Crawford a second. Major were playing decent football going forward and clawed a goal back through Ollie Collins only to make another mistake three minutes before the break and gift Crawford his hat trick. The Saints striker couldn’t believe his luck as on the stroke of half time as the defence again parted to give him a fourth goal. Major came storming out of the blocks at the start of the second half. They pulled one back through Ashley Bicknell after forty-six minutes and were right back in the game when after a lovely move Grant Russell pulled it back to 3-4 with more than twenty minutes to go. The game was settled when more defensive errors gave Simon Harper a goal after seventy-nine minutes and Kris Kruszewski wrapped things up five minutes from time.

As a result of the wet winter Probus played their first match since 31st November and were well short of match practice as they handed St.Mawgan a relegation lifeline. St.Mawgan won 5-1 with Chris Leach and Sean Lambart scoring a goal apiece. Probus put through their own goal to complete the host’s scoring, but pulled one back through Paul Cox.

Division One table toppers Polperro were held to a two all draw at Week St.Mary. Adam Taylor and Colin Wilson scored the visitor’s goals, but efforts from Steve Short and Rob Pearce gave Week a fine point in their battle against relegation.

Grampound had most of the game against Altarnun but were profligate in front of goal and also faced by a fine goalkeeping performance. The first half ended goalless on a very sticky and difficult surface. The second half was going along the same lines with fines saves being made, but with ten minutes to go Lee Budge hit a shot from the edge of the area. The keeper got a hand on the ball, but it squirmed out of his hands over the line. Grampound could have had a second when Tom Peers was brought down in the box, but Max Varnell saw his penalty saved. This led to a dodgy last five minutes with Grampound hanging on for a lone goal win.

Biscovey beat Gunnislake 6-2 with Martyn Jones netting a brace and James Cutlan, Nick Isbell, Craig Chester and Alex Woodman a goal apiece.

Pelynt lost their important promotion match with Godolphin Atlantic 4-2. Tom Marjeram and Fred Carter scored the home goals, but strikes from Josh Fearon, Dom Roberts and a Ben Colquhoun brace gave Godolphin the spoils.

Pensilva look menacing with a lot of games in hand of those above them. Jon Filbey and Zak Peel scored in a 2-1 win at Maker with Rame to enhance their title hopes. Rob Edwards replied for Maker.

Lanreath edged closer to the drop in Division Two with a six nil home defeat by title chasing North Petherwin. Callum Reeve scored a brace with Tom Foulds, Ryan Julian, Dan Warring and Simon Oliver completing the rout.

Padstow United stay four points clear after a below strength squad beat Gerrans & St.Mawes United two nil. Jake Charles and Sean Blows scored the goals.

Queens Rangers needed something out of their home game with Boscastle so a 3-4 loss edges them closer to the drop. Casey Laity, Ben Hawken and Jamie Seery scored for Rangers with Nathan Gessex, Andy Terry, Dan Hambly and Martin Seldon scoring for Boscastle.

Foxhole got off to the best possible start in their local derby at Sticker and with the home defence going missing Jamie Robinson lobbed the keeper after just a minute’s play. The first half was competitive and fairly evenly balanced with both sides trying to play football. Sticker equalised near the end of the half when good work by Alex Keast allowed Matt Lloyd to score. With the wind Sticker had more of the opening exchanges after the break ad the pressure told with Foxhole conceding a penalty from which Bradley Hoskin scored. Gary Bone hammered home number three from a direct free kick. Sticker were now in control and added further goals from Ben Rosevear with a brace. Foxhole doubled their tally with a penalty in the last minute as Sticker ran out 5-2 winners.

AFC Bodmin are up to third after goals from Mike Horne and Jonny Summerfield gave them a two nil win over St.Breward.

Lostwithiel played their first home match in a long time and celebrated with a 6-1 victory over Premier Sixes. James Hutchings and Bayley Phillips put the hosts two up, but Martyn Probert pulled one back before the break. Kevin Morcom increased the home lead with Phillips adding his second and Hutchings scoring twice more to complete his hat trick.

Callington Town finally won their first league game of the season in Division Three with a surprise 2-1 victory over Welcome Inn. Jordan Swinney and debut boy Kieran Prescott scored their goals with Tom Pickering replying.

The star of the day in the League was Simon Holmes who hit the net eight times in Holywell/Cubert Athletics stunning ten-goal win at Camelford. Aaron Murphy and Lachlan Brace also found the target, but Holmes heroics now places him well ahead in all the divisions scoring charts.

Roche drop to the bottom after losing three nil at home to Delabole United. Dave Barrett, Ashley Morris and an own goal gave the visitors their win.

Stoke Climsland saw an end to any promotion chance after being beaten 3-1 at home by St.Stephen. Tom Cleveland scored for Stoke, but the visitors won through with goals from James Hawken, James Allen and Dean Yelland.

Gunnislake reserves have brought in some older heads to steady the ship after their young players struggled at the start of the season. A fine two nil win over Grampound reserves will do a great deal to ensure Division Four safety. Mark Warwick and Alex Caers found the target.

Pensilva reserves were two up at home to Mevagissey reserves after fifteen minutes with Matt Carter-Brown and Nathan Deighton firing home. Pensilva then missed a couple of one-on-one chances with the keeper, which possibly were the turning point of the game as Mevagissey fought back to equalise before half time. Matt Mills scored the first with Dan Brady levelling the game. The second half saw two Eli O’Brien goals give Mevagissey a 4-2 win.

St.Teath earned a very welcome victory with a surprise 6-2 defeat of promotion hopefuls Gorran. Jake Williams scored a brace with Kevin Kendall, Ben French, Darren Edwards and Matt Mountain completing their tally. Sam Burr and Mike Brennan replied for Gorran.

Tintagel played well to upset second placed St.Neot 3-1. Shaun Keeble was again the difference with a brace and Adam Wight added their other goal. St.Neot’s own ace marksman Adam Gregory replied.

North Hill saw their position at the top strengthened as goals from Talisker Donahue, Jason Ridgment and Chris Rockell gave them a three nil win at St.Cleer reserves.

Wadebridge beat Torpoint Comrades 3-2 with Richard Dunstan scoring a brace and Tom Whitehead adding their other goal.

Veryan took a gigantic step towards the Division Five title beating their closest challengers St.Columb Major reserves 1-0 in a tightly fought top of the table encounter. Veryan just deserved the points, the only goal coming from a Bobby Lee Johns penalty five minutes into the second half.

North Petherwin reserves saw their promotion hopes slip with a heavy 5-1 home defeat to Southgate Seniors. Tom Wyman scored a brace for the visitors with Kevin Hatch, Nathan Farrer and Trevor Manning completing their scoring. Andi Sleeman scored the host’s consolation.

The battle of the bottom two went to St.Newlyn East reserves who broke their duck for the season in beating Duke of Cornwall 5-3. Chris Symons scored a brace with Adam Williams, Ross Emery and Josh Cook adding further goals. Leon Trudgeon, Sean Baron and Mark Nagle were the Duke scorer’s.

St.Minver reserves and St.Mawgan reserves drew one apiece. Ryan Butler of St.Minver traded goals with Lee Bryant.

Tregrehan Mills leapfrogged Pelynt reserves after a 2-1 victory. Keir Nicholls and Eduardo Reis scored the home goals.

Veryan 1-0 St Columb res

Both teams never really played to their full potential in a very hard fought and competitive top of the table clash.

Playing with the breeze and a slight gradient,

Major never really took advantage other than a

couple of incidents from corners and free kicks.

Playing too direct and not around the oppositions back line, cost the visitors the tie.

Going into the break 0-0, Major were always going to be up against it.

Disappointed to concede a penalty after the home teams player handled the ball which

dropped to an attacker who was stupidly brought

down in the area and scored by bobby Lee

johns.

A couple of good saves by Eliot Clarke and great defending by the visitors kept the scoreline to

the one, until the final five minutes where the visitors started to finally realise that they might

have a chance to grab a equaliser.

The equalising goal never materialised for a

disappointing show by some of the visitors

players and really didn't deserve anything out of

the game as the home teams players wanted

the victory more than us.

I have to agree and disagree with some of what you say.

It was a very scrappy game that no team wanted to lose. The flowing football both teams have played this season wasnt their today both teams were edgy and not really in control of the game. And Should have had more? i didnt think their was many chances in the game that were clear cut and saves had to be made. A very harsh penalty not really sure what he saw in it but that was what changed the game. I feel if it wasnt for the decision it would have ended 0-0. I felt we ( major) let ourselves down today with the lack of determination and grunt to get a result. Congrats to veryan they are at the top for a reason. very organised side. personal view though not the best side we have played this year. North petherwin i thought were up their.

anyway good luck for the season and maybe a replay in the league next year.

Congratulations to Sticker yesterday, probably the best team Ive played against in this league, I just wonder if the same team will be available next week :)

While the referee did ok at times, it helps when he is on first name terms with most of the home side. There was one dicison where he was given no choice, however I think a more experienced would have probably been a better choice for this game.

The pick of the goals was the free kick, around 30yrds out and stuck it in the top right corner.... no keeper wouldve saved that, great strike!!

If Sticker had this team available all season they wouldve walked this league, read into that what you will.

That's the joys of having a good first team & using some of the players for the seconds when available, nothing wrong with playing for your club @ any level.Maybe if Foxhole worked as a club rather than two different entities they might have been able to do the same, sorry I take that back the seconds @ foxhole are probably better than the firsts anyway wouldn't you say Mr Ralph.

Im glad you have such a insightful knowledge of Foxhole :) You obviously know more than I.

I know for a fact you have a few unhappy players there yesterday, but obviously loyalty to the regulars isnt a priorty.

Im sure we couldve played some of our first team, but I think that wouldve been disrespectful to our opposition and our 2nd team........ maybe my morals arent the same as yours x

Good luck for the rest of the season

Duchy 2

Lostwithiel 6-1 Premier Sixes

A terrific result for the home side keeps them right in the promotion mix, which seems to be going to the wire!

The pitch hadn't been used since 8th December due to the heavy rainfall, flooding and mole invasion. Needless to say the surface was bloody awful, in particular the river side of the pitch which was more earth/stone than grass! Nevertheless the game went ahead and a bobbly pitch would be testing for both sides.

P6's showed plenty of creativity in the first half and were particularly dangerous upfront and on the wings. This evident threat was well marshalled by the home defence who kept them largely at bay although a few scrambled clearances were made under the pressure of the busy strikers and the unpredictable bounce from the surface. P6's went close on a few occasions and struck the woodwork with a fantastic effort from a tight angle. However, the home side did look the more organised and were also dangerous going forward as the play went from end to end. The hosts took the lead after a mistake in the P6's defence allowed Bayley Phillips to round the keeper and slot the ball home. Tails were up and it wasn't too long before the lead was doubled after a great team goal started in their own half by the Morcom brothers who combined and fed a superb ball for James Hutchings to calmly lob the oncoming keeper for 2-0. P6's pushed for a response but were largely frustrated by the home defence, although a breakthrough came on the stroke of half time after a clever flick header forward found Probert who fired into the corner across the goalkeeper with a clinical finish, making it 2-1 at half time.

Lostwithiel anticipated that the difficult half was out of the way, having defended the roughest end of the pitch and this was to be proved correct in the second half. The home side took the game by the scruff of the neck almost immediately after the restart and the passing football improved greatly. P6's were struggling to get a foothold in the game, much to the dismay of the away strikers who were getting little service. The home side won a corner early in the 2nd half which was taken by Kevin Morcom and the inswinging cross found its way straight into the net for 3-1. The floodgates suddenly opened and Lostwithiel scored 3 more goals in a 14 minute spell. James Hutchings had a ruthless day in front of goal, scoring twice more to complete his hatrick, with assured finishes including a fine looping header. In between these 2 goals was a superb strike from Bayley Phillips who turned onto his right foot and bent a lovely curling shot into the top corner for his brace. With the scoreline now at 6-1 the game was certainly over and this emphatic spell of football stunned the away side who looked well beaten. To their credit they managed to stem the flow for the remaining 20 minutes or so and regained some composure in their play without really threatening to add to their goal tally. Lostwithiel were able to bring on all 3 subs and enjoyed a comfortable afternoon against one of the better sides in the league. Considering the state of the pitch the home side played some fine football and the performance was certainly one of the best this season. P6's were clearly unsettled by the surface which would be nothing like the 3G pitch they are use to! The game was played in very good spirits and I must give credit to P6's who were gracious in defeat and never lost their heads despite the scoreline.

Hopefully the roller will be out to flatten them mole hills before the game next weekend against St Breward!

Fowey 6-1 Torpoint Athletic A poor display from Torpoint as we allowed Fowey to run away with 6 very simple goals. After getting the game back to 1-1 I thought our quality would show and we could gain a positive result. Fowey were able to score their goals at key times and put the game to bed early in the second half.
