Massey Pulls out

Former Truro City manager Steve Massey is pulling out of an attempt to buy the struggling Blue Square Bet South club as he cannot raise enough funds.

Massey, who was in charge of Truro from 2004 to 2006, said last month that he was keen to make a bid.

"Reluctantly and very disappointingly I've been unable to bring in the people that I wanted, and the financial muscle," he told BBC Radio Cornwall.

"But the financial matter of fact is there's been no cash to back mine."

Massey feels that it costs between £200,000-250,000 a season to run the club, but it is not generating anywhere near that sort of figure in terms of income.

Truro are in administration after owner Kevin Heaney went bankrupt and left the club to fight a debt claim of £700,000.

"The players are on very good Conference money on a Western League income," Massey said.

"Over the past seven seasons it's been a train crash waiting to happen.

"I had the figures through on Friday and they don't make pleasant reading at all.

"As a business proposition you'd walk away from it, it just doesn't make sense"

Truro will be expelled from the Blue Square Bet South on 11 October unless they can prove that new owners are able to sustain the club.

Massey says he would be happy to tide the club over in the short term to keep it alive, but only if there was a genuine prospect of new investment.

"I don't mind propping the club up for a month, two months, even up to Christmas.

"But unless there's some cast-iron guarantee that there'll be financial support to go on after that then I won't make a bid for the club."

Well there you have it, a bit of meat on the bones. A quarter million per year!!!! with no prospect of recovering it and showing a profit.

A money drain for sure, and thats just the football side of things. You have to cover the running costs of everything else on top of that.

Last nights game, 340 x £11 = £3740 and thats with everyone paying £11 How many home games 20??? x by £4000 = £80,000. Bit of sponsorship £20,000/£35000 ??? who knows? well short of even breaking even! you would be looking to top up by £100K any takers? I can't see them queueing up - can you??? You could certainly buy in for the obligatory £1

Falling crowds and the economy in the doggy doo

there's my stab at it, now over to you.

Perhaps a pitch owners or shareholders scheme based on supporters of Cornwalls highest ranked Football Club could be formed. Say, 500 avid supporters at the cost of £100 each per season would provide them with Conferance football on their doorstep, a share/say in their local club and most importantly a sustained revenue each year to help against the massive costs of remaining involved in that standard and league. It's been done elsewhere but I'd assume that it couldn't be done in time to save the club now let alone it even being a realistic possibility.

Who owns the ground/land now?

That really ain't hard to work out !!!!!!! Based on what Steve Massey required to continue with his interest, the administrators could not give that guarantee. It looks pretty much over I'm afraid.

Pity though, after watching the other night I would certainly have taken in a few more games.

Theolder................ It was,nt Truro's first game in BSC you could have watched them long before this game or did you just want to see the so called "last" game!

Hope they do get a buyer and maintain BSC status, at least players that can play this standard will have a team to play for, if Truro fold the best hope for local talent is premier pennisula.

If you bother to read all the threads you would have known thats precisely why I went!!!

If your good enough to play at a higher level than the local premier, the opurtunity is there now with all of the youth programmes in place. Time you caught up.
