West Cornwall FC - 2018/19 Season

Recommended Posts

West Cornwall FC are looking for a new management team for our 1st XI ahead of the 2018/19 season

Due to a change in work pattern, current manager Martin 'Mendoc' Sleeman will be stepping down after his second successful stint as manager. The club would like to again thank Mendoc for all of his efforts over both his spells as manager, winning a host of trophies in the Trelawny leagues whilst also securing promotion to the Combination League at the end of the 16/17 season.

Our first season at this new level has been a learning experience for everyone involved at the club, management, committee and the players. This season was always going to be about finding our feet in the new league and as things currently stand, a respectable mid-table finish is on the cards, which on top of a good senior cup run will be a positive season for the side.

The club are looking for an individual (or team) to take on a promising group of players with lots of potential, and reinvigorate the squad with some fresh ideas and faces, the squad will benefit from a handful of new signings but in no way needs a complete overhaul. Our ambitions are to look to establish ourselves as one of the more competitive sides at this level over the coming seasons, whilst continuing to focus on closing the gap in terms of league position between our 1st and 2nd team.

We are still a relatively young club, celebrating our 10th anniversary this summer and have achieved much in this short amount of time, but our core values have always remained the same. The new manager will find themselves joining a small, but tight-knit group with a real family atmosphere and will be expected to 'muck in' behind the scenes on a committee level, as well as work openly and closely with Reserve team manager Adam Lockwood. We are keen to keep a 'one club/one squad' focus rather than run as two separate sides.

We will consider all applicants, whether it be an experienced manager at this level, or someone with less experience wanting to take a step up, the key qualities that we will be looking for are around the individual and not necessarily what experience they have.

Anyone interested in the role should contact club vice-chairman Owen Hodge via phone or email:

Good questions and all items that can be discussed during a conversation with any potential candidates.

However to answer your questions.

  1. As things stand we will continue to use the grass pitch at Camborne college
    1. We understand that the quality of the pitch needs to be improved and will be undertaking substantial work over the next 12 months to address this

    2. The 3G is not FIFA approved so is unable to host Trelawny or Combination league games. The cost of getting this approved is not an insignificant amount and so this has forced our hands somewhat. In an ideal scenario we will have use of both pitches at some point in the future.

  2. We currently use Robartes Arms in Illogan (a 5 minute drive from the pitch) who host both of our sides before and after games and put on food for the home and visiting teams
    1. Again, long term goals are to have our own clubhouse but for now that is the situation

We are essentially a small and relatively young club in the grand scheme of things, that have done well to get to the level we are at in the time it has taken to get there. We have long term ambitions and hope to continue to grow over the coming years.
