Ball bags
Stithians 1- 2 Falmouth United Falmouth united faced a tough battle against not only a stubborn Stithians side, but also some of the most challenging conditions you’re likely to see on a football pitch. The tail end of storm Gerrit made any attempts to play football a real struggle, but the Falmouth lads dug deep and put in a great gritty performance on a muddy bog of a pitch. Hayden made it 1-0 after an under-hit pass by Stithians’ centre back put through the Falmouth striker. He finished brilliantly first time, the ball swinging over the keeper and just nestling into the corner of the net - the wind tried its best to drag it wide. After that, the rain arrived and made the conditions even worse. Players could barely look towards the oncoming rain, but Falmouth held on to the lead at half time. After that the weather let off for the rest of the game, allowing both teams to play something that resembled football for the first time in the game. Charlie put Falmouth 2-0 up, with a great first time finish that snapped past the stithians goalkeeper from 20 yards or so. Stithians made the last 20 minutes hard, pressing high up the pitch and eventually grabbing a goal back to make it 2-1. But United held on, and won a very tough game against a strong side. Massive thanks to Barry Murfin for taking the team along with Chloe while manager Mike served his red card at home in the warm. Hustling in cars watching were 20 plus spectators I would guess Next week Stithians come to Falmouth Utds pitch Hdog
James_Wright
PENZANCE RESERVES 1 REDRUTH UNITED RESERVES 3 Penzance never recovered from the concession of two early goals as they slipped to defeat in difficult conditions at Penlee Park. After five minutes, a corner from the right found its way to Jake Williams who fired home at the far post. Then, just three minutes later, a wonder strike by Zack Heard from over twenty years out put Redruth in complete control. The Magpies found their feet gradually, but failed to fashion any clear openings until after the turn-around when Kizzy Snowden was twice denied by good saves. Set-up by Freddie Neaum, Lewis Hitchens also tested the Redruth keeper with a good shot from distance. With seventeen minutes to go, Matt Collins made the game safe for the visitors, ripping an excellent angled drive just inside the far post after good work down the left by Dario Pisano. Aiden Treloar then had two chances to extend the lead further, just missing with one low shot, then being denied by an excellent save by Jake Hitchens, again deputising in goal for injured Harvie Paramore. The home side snatched a consolation goal two minutes from time, recent signing Henry Ramsay heading in his first goal for the club from a corner from the left. “The first twenty minutes were our downfall,” said Penzance joint manager Daz Smith. “We started slowly and were second to every ball. Conceding two early goals killed us, and we faced an uphill battle. But I felt for large spells we were the better team. Against a physical side, we asked our lads to move the ball quickly. However, with the pitch deteriorating it suited them more and we couldn't play our usual game and create enough clear chances. That being said, there were positives today and we'll look to focus on those rather than over-analysing a performance on a very muddy Penlee Park.” Penzance: Jake Hitchens, Ollie Rawlins, Lewis Hitchens, Sam Payne (Henry Ramsay 73), Steve Miller, Joel Steel (Adam Lewis 46), Kai Baxter, Freddie Neaum, Kizzy Snowden, Tyler Smith (Harvey Richings 63), Dylan Walter (Fin Sharp 46) Redruth: James Isaacs, Nathan Jeffree, Adam Cole, Jermaine Rossi, Matt Collins, George Haynes, Kane Isaacs, Dario Pisano, James Petty, Lewis Pellow, Jake Williams. Subs: Tom Craze, Zack Heard, Kayode Odetayo, Aiden Treloar Referee: Thomas Milburn Soccer Follower and Dave Deacon 1
