Dave Deacon
St Ives Town Reserves have withdrawn from the new St Piran League, Division 3 (West). The league has posted :"Due to a lack of players and a team manager St Ives Town Reserves have today [31st July] advised the league that they are withdrawing from Division 3 (West) with immediate effect. Storm will now receive a 'bye' in the Percy Stephens Cup." This comes on the back of last week's confirmation by the league that Southgate Senior had withdrawn from Division 1 (East). Again it was due to a lack of players!
Foul Throw 3
A shame. And an even bigger shame to those that applied to join but weren't voted in at the AGM. But, this was predicted by some to be a short term loss for long term gain of participation in the county under the new setup. Hopefully in time that works out. Steve Carpenter
And the loss of Rosudgeon for the same reasons @Dave Deacon
Dave Deacon
St Ives Res & Southgate are in addition to Morwenstow Reserves (who were withdrawn from Division 4 (East) to join the North Devon League) and Rosudgeon who couldn't get enough players and had to pull out of Division 1 (West). Igor_Biscan
St Ives reserves were a decent unit last season, bit worrying with them and rosudgeon folding, numbers of teams in west Cornwall dwindling

Looks that way doesn't it. Having a player cap on the amount of registrations you can have will have a ripple effect. Early days yet though, don't start til Saturday! Steve Carpenter
There is no cap. The only limit is that clubs can register up to 50 players per team for free. After that a small fee is payable for every player over that number. The Badger and House Elf
Foul Throw 3
Sorry wrong terminology from me. Small fee here, but the Western League is £10/player! If the SWPL have the same then some clubs are going to have a big bill coming their way. The Badger
Dave Deacon
This is an official statement from the Southgate club on why the men's side was withdrawn. Club Statement – Southgate Football Club Southgate Football Club have made the very difficult decision to withdraw their men’s team from the St Pirans League for the 23/24 season. The men’s team were extremely successful in 22/23 winning the final Duchy League Premier division but a number of players left the club due relocation. The amalgamation of the East Cornwall, Duchy and St Piran leagues into the one St Piran league has also resulted in local clubs such as Launceston, Lifton, North Petherwin, Altarnun, North Hill and Southgate all playing in the same league meaning players can only sign for one club. Over the past 35 years Southgate Colts have provided a pathway for many young players to move into adult football. It has always been part of the clubs ethos that players should move on to play at the highest level possible. and this year is no different with a number of local clubs such as Launceston benefiting by signing last year’s U16’s. Southgate continue to thrive at Youth level with 18 teams registered in the DJM and Cornwall Youth Leagues for 23/24 and the recently formed Mini Kickers group on Sunday mornings has added another contribution to the local community. Southgate Vets will continue to play in the Cornwall veterans league and the club is planning to start up a girls team and walking football to enable even more people to engage in football. Southgate is a not for profit organisation who’s priority is to provide the community of Launceston and outlying areas with excellent football coaching and facilities. Work on the grass pitch’s in conjunction with the Athens Trust and supported by a grant from the football Foundation is already showing significant improvements. Although the loss of the men’s team was not planned for 23/24, the priority for the club is to provide a pathway for young players through their development years and the club is in excellent shape to continue this.
