Penryn 7-2 Godolphin

A bit of a mismatch at Penryn today but Godolphin gave their all & kept it respectable. Ryn kept the ball from the off but were a little slow on the ball, meaning G were able to get men behind the ball & frustrate us early. Ryn missed a few chances before eventually getting their deserved goal after 25 mins when Liam Dent was taken down in the box which allowed Brad Southeard to score from the spot. We hoped this would see the away sides heads drop & the floodgates open, but this didn't happen & they equalised 5 mins later when their #9 stepped up for a 35 yard free kick, & despite his own players begging him not to shoot, he curled a left footed strike in to the bottom corner. Penryn took the lead again 10 mins later when Rhys Allen started a lovely move & finished it with a cool flick past the keeper. We made it 3 before half time after the keeper had made a great save but the ball fell to Lewis Pellow on the left who fired the ball in to the far top corner. Penryn scored just after half time when Liam Dent did well to get on the end of a cross to head home. As the Godolphin players tired we had the luxury of bringing on Jason Roberts, Jak Davies, Kyle Cooke & Ryan Reeve. Roberts made it 5 when he got on the end of a deep cross from Elliot Baker, brought the the ball down well & eventually hit a left footed strike in to the corner of the net. G then pulled 1 back when their #10 did well to nick the ball in the box, beat a man & smashed home into the roof of the net from a tight angle. Penryn soon made it 6 when young Jak Davies scored 10th of the season, bringing down a cross, spinning & smashing the ball across the keeper in to the top corner. We made it 7 with 5 to go when Kiall Maugham picked up the ball well inside his own half drove with it before playing a neat 1-2 with Ryan Reeve & finishing well past the keeper.

We weren't at our best but 3 points in the bag & looking forward to a tough semi final at St Day next week against Mullion. Credit to Godolphin who worked the socks off & never gave in. Their #10 & #14 both played very well.

Penryn mom was either Kieran Eastwood or Rhys Allen who were both superb.
