Eight games today. That alone is encouraging from how it was looking a few weeks ago. Some thumping victories but nothing outlandishly one-sided.

And a sign that Stoke Gabriel may have stabilised (Sean Finch playing and scoring four).

Stoke back at a sensible level, would be nice to see them eventually back at step 6 but for now definitely the right level. As for Finchy, definitely a few goals in those boots this season.

Finchy. Watcombe Wanderers' finest. Plus a few minutes on the pitch in competitive first-team football with Torquay United. Not quite an Antony Lynch, mind.

Would be good to see South Devon's better grounds being used for a decent level of football. Stoke Gabriel certainly comes into that category. Dawlish too although the current occupants appear happy in the Devon & Exeter. South Devon College's set-up isn't hosting a senior club at the moment but I guess that's not its main purpose. Devon FA is an odd one. Would be good to see step 5/6 football there but, again, it has another purpose and appears to be well-used.

Paignton Saints of the Devon League do play at Coach Road. To an outsider it appears to be a little strange why they continue to play in Newton Abbot now that the college pitch is available in Paignton. Perhaps it's not as straightforward as that. Maybe also the refreshment facilities are far better at Coach Road!

I thought Paignton Villa were still using SDC in the SDFLbut may well have returned to Whiterock.

Totally agree with Paignton Saints, you'd think their support would increase if they were playing back in Paignton, unless Coach Road is cheaper to hire of course.

Yes, Villa - second tier of the South Devon - using SDC.

Have seen Saints at Coach Road and actually wondered if their support was boosted by the bar!!

Good to see Exeter City women using Exwick Sports Hub (Exeter College). Must walk down the hill one Sunday afternoon.

After logging delays and teams pulling out it's looking pretty settled in the Devon League. Certainly no telltale lists of forthcoming postponements which have often signalled a team is 'taking a break' or about to pull out.

Early days. No team, in either section, has played more than four games. One or two have only played a single league game. Ipplepen have had three big defeats (one in a cup) although two were against Mount Gould and they've since won in the county cup. Stoke Gabriel appear to have landed rather better than Ottery St Mary. Just one game for the (previously) all-conquering University of Exeter whilst it's probably Beer Albion that will be the happiest of all after the start they've had.

Guessing the Uni boys had to wait for term time before kicking off their season? Know in the past when they were SWPL, they used locally based players at the start of the season before the new intake arrived in town.

Played first game 17 September (which was only two weeks late in the end); one league and two cup games so far.

Interesting to see if they go for step 6; apparently decision would lie with the univiersity's central sports body rather than the football section alone.

Fielding seven teams in the Devon & Exeter this season. 'Law of Averages' suggests there would be sufficient players around before the start of term even though the university recruits a greater proportion of non-local students than other institutions in the area.

That's interesting, never gave it much thought as to who would decide whether to apply for promotion or not. That's a staggering amount of sides to look after. Hope there's more than one kit-man!

DC Autos have withdrawn from the Devon League.  Think this is due to players leaving and struggling to raise a team. I don’t any clubs from the West Devon have applied to join the league.

Lost track of how many clubs have withdrawn from the league since it's inception, been a disaster since day one.

Yes, more games, but then yiu have the added cost of fuel etc  could be expensive for a lot of clubs.

on the flip side all clubs should know the further you go up in the leagues, the more expensive it will be, hence why clubs withdrew over the last couple of seasons.
