Penryn (Maugham x2, Pellow, Kent, Davies x2, Roberts) 7-2 St Day (Richards, Wysoski)

Att: 40

Penryn came in to the game missing 7 of our regulars, meaning we had a bench comprising of our fitness coach, 1st team manager & Paul Suddes, who was signed as cover from Threemilestone reserves earlier in the week. Despite this we were able to field a strong starting 11 albeit with a few players playing out of position.

Penryn got off to a disastrous start when the always lively Dan Richards shot from 30 yards got a wicked deflection off of makeshift centre half Kyle Cooke, which totally wrong footed Ryn captain for the day Chris Page in the Penryn goal for 0-1. As the 1st half went on Penryn took control but a combination of good St Day defending & poor Ryn finishing meant they kept their lead for most of the 1st half. On 35 mins ex St Day man Kiall Maugham (who was superb) turned well on the penalty spot & fired in the equaliser. 5 mins later Lewis Pellow cut in from the right & lashed a left footed strike in off the near post for 2-1. Then right on the stroke of half time "Minto" Kent finished off  a superb move when he stroked his finish into the top corner.

Ht 3-1

St Day came out fighting, just as they had in the 1st half & got a goal back when Liam Paddock played a through ball in behind the Ryn back line, keeper Chris Page got there 1st but his clearance was blocked by Matt Wysoski which sent the ball up in the air & Wysoski was able to volley home into the empty net.  Ryn then got their 4th around the hour mark when Kiall Maugham found the ball drop to him 20yards out & smashed the ball into the net. Goals 5 & 6 came about shortly after both from the Penryn player of the season so far 18 year old Jak Davies, both good finishes but his 2nd was especially good as he's turned his man on the edge of the box & fizzed his strike into the top corner. There was time for 1 more when 1st team manager Harry Pope dispossessed the St Day defender, playing in Jason Roberts who made no mistake when he hit the top corner of the net with a cool left footed strike.

The game was played in good spirits, young referee Ollie Knibb had a good game, let the game flow but at the same time he never lost control.

Pitch was lovely as always. The scoreline didn't do St Day justice, they were well in the game & defended very well, particularly from corners of which it seemed Penryn had about 30. Penryn scored some absolute belters, maintaing our 100% record before a very tough trip to Rousudgeon on Saturday.
