Guest Black&White
Penzance 3, Goonhavern 0 Steve Hancock's first half hat trick gave the Magpies a well deserved win in a game that the home side could and should have won by a cricket score. Goonhavern, who were reduced to 10-men late on, never gave up, but their goal led a charmed life at times, particularly in the second half when chances rained in on Gooners' manager John Mitchell's goal. Indeed but for some fine saves by Mitchell himself, along with shots hitting the woodwork and some wasteful finishing, the scoreline would have had a much more realistic look to it. Some impressive performances among the Penzance line-up from the likes of Hancock, Wayne Quinn, Sean McMahon and Dan Magee - on his 19th birthday. St Blazey await the Magpies in the next round at Penlee Park in mid October. Penzance: Craig Nicholls; James Greet, Jay Liddicoat, James Street, Darren Ball; Wayne Quinn ©, Dan Magee, Sean McMahon, Stuart Reynolds, Steve Hancock, Nick Pugliese. Subs: Steve Burt (for McMahon), Jamie Devine (for Greet), Darren Holsey (for Street). Referee: Ian Roberts (Camborne). Assistants: Paul and Ben Minns (Camborne). Dave Deacon
Wayne Quinn ... exquisite left peg! Felt the Goonhavern player (Dean Blatch) was unlucky to get the yellow card, but when are players going to learn when not to say things to referees? As for the young assistant referee ... like I told you, ignore the crowd and just concentrate on doing a good job. Not sure however you need to always tell the player you're addressing to "shut up" or "shut it". Show a little restraint and respect and the players will actually do likewise. Dave Deacon
Being on a Friday night with no other games and at Penzance where they generally get a good gate, I was expecting a few more if I'm honest!
Mike Odgers
I see your point Dave, As Penzance had a gate of 134 v Hayle and 92 v St.austell(averaging over 100) which is well up for the average 64 of the whole SWPL(W) but there again Goonhavern are probably the least supported club of the Peninsula. John Mead
Official gate recorded as 118, though there were a few more watching the 2nd half - they wait until the pay-desk is shut!
