Richard Chown
Good result for Truro City especially with Sailsbury drawing. Truro now top of the league in goal difference.
Tynan's_Dad
Four games left and several teams still in with a chance. Two big games up next for Truro as you would hope they should get 6 points from the last two. Away v Chippenham (7th) Home v Leamington (6th) Away v Banbury (16th) Home v Weymouth (19th) Salisbury still have a tough trip to Chesham and Cambridge have a home game v Chippenham still to come. Dave Deacon
Back to today's game at Treyew Road. Even though Swindon Supermarine came into the game without a win in seven matches and not having scored in their last three, Truro still turned in a very good performance to go back onto the top of the table. City went in front after 6 minutes when joint caretaker manager Matt Robinson headed into his own net, but Swindon were level three minutes later when an optimistic long range shot out of nothing from David Murphy somehow went in as I can only assume Truro's 'keeper Martin Rice thought the ball was going wide. As he watched it go past him, the ball hit the post and much to everyone's surprise went across the goal-line into the opposite corner of the net! City responded in the right way by penning Swindon back for long periods - they hit the cross-bar, Les Afful shot over, before he then also failed to get a clean touch on a cross, but on 32 minutes Barry Hayles headed home a Marcus Martin cross. James Rae, the Swindon goally got his hands to it, but somehow failed to keep the ball out. A strong header from Truro's No. 10 obviously. Two minutes later and Hayles made the most of a horrendous defensive mistake by perfect finishing, placing the ball passed Rae. 3-1 at the break and City looked more than eventual comfortable winners, and even better as Salisbury were losing! Three minutes after the restart and maximum points were guaranteed with Dan Smith shooting home a ball laid off by Martin. Hayles made sure of his hat-trick just after the hour with a penalty after Ash was needlessly fouled. Stewart Yetton (on for the hat-trick hero and the official Man of the Match Hayles), held off his marker to lay the ball on for Marcus Martin to make it 6-1 on 66 minutes. The party atmosphere calmed down a little when Murphy did well, shrugging off a Jake Ash challenge to neatly finish off for his and Swindon's second on 72 minutes. The last word belonged to City though when Les Afful (who I thought had one of the best games I've seen him play since joining City) chipped in a delicate short range cross for Andy Taylor to volley home. Truro's line-up: Rice, McConnell Walker, Pugh (Clay), Adams, Ash ©, Taylor, Martin (Broad), Afful, Hayles (Yetton), Smith. Subs not used - Jeannin, Brooks (GK)
