FIXTURES - MIDWEEK 10TH/11TH OCTOBER, 2023

Recommended Posts

Launceston 0 Doms 6

A solid performance from back to front saw us score three in each half to secure full midweek points.

After Kieran Ryall netted from an offside very early on it didn’t take long for his finish from a long ball to count, as the defender misjudged the dropping ball for 1-0. The second followed shortly after, a dangerous ball in from the left which the keeper parried unluckily into his own defender and the ricochet went into the net. Launceston had a spell on the front foot but their best chance was snatched wide. Right on half time, a loose ball in the box and the defender swiped out Kane Thomas with John Styring dispatching the resulting spot kick for 3-0 at the break.

A bit of a shaky five minutes after the break allowed the home side a couple of half chances before we extended the lead, a misplaced back pass allowed Ryall to nip and finish one on one. A really nicely worked move around the box saw Alex Jacob finish the move with the fifth goal of the night and the final goal of the evening saw Francis Roy-Pengelly out pacing the defender,  with the keeper making the block and colliding with Pengelly, the ball falling to Kieren Jasper to lob in to the net.

Man of the match went to Thomas for solid defensive display as well as good creativity going forward.

All the best to the hosts who have some good youngsters coming through and a 6-0 scoreline probably was a little heavy for their effort on the night.

St Dennis Development 1 - 6 Looe

Looe were caught out very early on with a bit of miss control by our centre back which allowed their striker to score in less than 30 seconds.

Although being a goal down Looe started to take control despite some overzealous tackles on a wet pitch. St Dennis seemed to want to take advantage of a young opponent but thankfully Looe continued to play their football.

On the 4th minute Keiran Hemming assisted Archie Sweeney with a low shot to the bottom left corner, making it 1-1. The game stayed level until Reece Willmott cut in from the right wing to score with a great left footed finish, hammering it in to the top left corner of the goal.

St Dennis mainly played long ball had a couple of chances, but our defence worked hard to stop them scoring.  The halve ended 1-2 Looe.

Going in to the second half the lads continued to play the ball around and opening spaces up to get in behind St Dennis. The wet conditions didn’t suit St Dennis and they seemed to mainly play it long and gambling on the front man. Looe tried to take advantage of this by winning the long ball and then bringing it down to play on the floor. Chances started to come and Jack Woollett scored a fantastic effort from 30 yards out. He turned in from this left to hit it with his right. We’ll have listen to his tale of that goal for years!

A few minutes later Philippos Kombostiotis came out of the middle, to cut down the right wing, then crossing the ball in for Archie to get his second. A well worked bit of football and great timing by Archie with is run.

65 minutes in and Barny come on for Archie as a straight swap up top. Looe continued have most of the play and with quick passing had a couple of chances at the keeper. Josh Doney was sub off for Jacob Owen who soon had a 40-yard shoot from the right side and the keeper almost punched in to his own net.

Phil broke though in to the box, to then be brought down by a St Dennis player. The player was sent off and a penalty was awarded. Reece took the penalty and placed it in the bottom right.

the final goal was scored by Jack who again took a chance to shot hard and low in the box towards goal, the ball deflected of a keeper.

6-1 to Looe was a great result in was a very physical game on a wet pitch. The lads, despite conceding early played their game and never faulted.

Goals – Jack Woollett x2 Archie Sweeney x2 Reece Wilmott x2

Pretty much how the game went bar the last goal and the penalty shout,Ur player had all but dragged our centre half down n our midfielder charged thru him trying to win the ball,if anything it should of been a foul in our favour but the ref seemed to have missed it but caught the 2nd tackle and sent our number 8 off, this happens and we don't have var so can't complain the refs missed it,the last goal was defo an own goal too jack shot damo parried it out and our full back had got across to block/clear the shot and it's cannoned off his foot and gone in so he can't claim that one 😂

We weren't at the races after scoring early on if anything it was a shock to the system as we normally don't score,Reece and Phil had a couple of thunder bolts which were decent strikes tbf,I possibly should of done better at 2-1 where I beat Ur offside trap and skimmed the post with only the keeper to beat n we probably could of had a couple more but for some wayward finishing but we don't get the luck in front of goal so that's why we r where we r in the league, both teams weren't holding back in the tackles and the ref played as much advantages as he could.

Good luck in the next round and thanks for coming in for a pint after the game and supporting the club house.
