St Buryan 2-7 Stithians

Treve Bale 3

Tom Roberts

Ben Kempthorne

James Martin

Tom Furse

Lovely afternoon down at St Buryan on to the football. Stithians started brightly against the Buryan missing a couple good chances early on Buryan came back into it with a couple chances of there own.  But on the 18th minute the deadlock was Broken when Bale was put through and lobbed the keeper for one nil. Stithians kept creating chances and 5 minutes later it was 2-0 when James Martin unleashed from 25 yards into the top corner giving the keeper no chance.  Soon after that we made it 3-0 after good work on the right by Ben Kempthorne crossed for Tom Roberts to convert at the back post to make 3-0. St Buryan then woke up and on the 35th minute a cross from the right was headed onto the bar stithians failed to clear there lines and the ball fell to the edge of the box and the centre midfielder chipped Bray in the Stithians goal.  St Buryan kept coming forward but on the 42nd minute we extended our lead to 4-1 when Ben Kempthorne finished at the back post.

4-1 HT

Second half St Buryan started the brighter of the two teams without creating any chances. But on the 50th minute Stithians broke and Treve Bale struck the ball in bottom corner to make it 5-1.  Buryan kept plucking away and in the 60th minute made it 5-2 when the centre mid curled one in from edge of the box for his 2nd of the game 5-2. Soon after we failed to clear our lines and the striker had a wonderful chance to make it 5-3 but was well saved by Bray.  Both sides spurned chances Buryan centre half hit the bar after a corner was whipped back stick. But in the 75th minute Stithians bought on Tom Furse claiming he only had a 15 minute stint in his legs. Two minutes later he made it 6-3 after a nice turn and buried at bottom corner. Stithians polished off the game in the 85th minute when Furse very unselfishly set up Bale for his Hat trick. Last but not least a big shout out for Jason Weeks who wasn't going to score if he was there all day haha.

7-3 Ft

A very big thank you to St Buryan for supplying the ref, thanks for the food after the game. Good luck for the season

DIV 2WEST

PERRANWELL   (0)   1              Sam Lawrence 81’

NEWLYN NA    (2)   5               Jack Liddicoat  22’ 23’ 56’   Tyler Dayus 64’  Adam Strowger 89’

ATT 22

MOM   Jack Liddicoat NNA

Felt a bit sorry for the Well today, had a couple players back and dominated the first 20 minutes before Newlyn scored with their first attack, an expert lob finish from the leagues top marksman Jack Liddicoat. Straight from the kick off Perran gave the ball away on the edge of their own area and Liddicoat wasn’t going to pass that gift up!! 10 minutes after the restart it was that man Liddicoat again who was the difference between the two teams in reality lobbing home again from the edge of the area. With Newlyn spotting this weakness Tyler Dayus struck a superb 40 yarder over the head of Perrans young keeper to wrap the game up at 4-0. To be fair the hosts probably had 60/40 of the game possession wise and will wonder how they’ve lost 1-5 for their efforts but the final ball was too often over hit or cut out and Newlyn always looked a bit more threatening on the break. Sam Lawrence did eventually get on the end of a ball over the top and slotted well into the far corner in between Ben Rapsey having two good low strikes from narrow angles well saved by the keepers outstretched feet. But it was all in vain as the clinical Newlyn put some gloss on the scoreline when Adam Strowger wriggled free to smash the ball into the top corner from 15 yards for a nap hand victory for Atletico. Well reffed by Mr Tim Reeks chatting and having some banter with the players throughout, nice to see a ref with a smile on his face. Credit to both sets of lads, 24c hot and sunny day and a game played in good spirits.

Probus 5-0 Goonhavern

Yesterday saw us entertain Goonhavern at home and to see if we could continue our unbeaten start to the season.

After a selection headache with having 22 players available for the game, picking a squad of 16 wasn’t easy at all especially after our impressive performance last week.

The Friday night pre match warm up wasn’t replicated from the previous week and Justin was tucked up in bed by 9 this week.

Conditions were great for football but our fast start from last week didn’t materialise this week and we looked slow and sluggish from kick off. Passing was slow and along with the communication we gave the visitors abit of hope. After a drinks break mid way through the first half we slowly got to grips with the game. Having a perfectly good goal disallowed by the flag happy linesman we took the lead through Bullen and this settled us down abit. We hit the post twice in the first half but went into the interval at 1-0.

After a productive half time team talk we started the second half brightly and soon made it 2-0 thanks to Bullen again who’s 20 yard strike coming off the underside of the crossbar put us firmly in control. We started to play the football we’ve come accustomed too and looked dangerous when we got the ball out wide to Danny and Joe.

3-0 wasn’t long coming again through Bullen to round off his hatrick. Substitutions came thick and fast which disrupted us abit but we soon made it 4 thanks to a fine finish from Joe Emmett. The lovely gabby was causing havoc as he has done when he’s come on in previous weeks and had an audacious overhead kick cleared off the line from the edge of the area. If it had gone in there would of been absolute scenes at St George’s. He then nearly opened his account for the club but was denied by the post.

5-0 was just around the corner through a 4th goal from Bullen who to be honest should have had 10 with no exaggeration.

The game drew to a close with us winning 5-0 and staying unbeaten with 4 wins from 4, scoring 25 goals and conceding 1.

Good performances from Danny V and Bullen put them up for man of the match but after scoring 4 Bullen was given the nod.

**** of the day was a close run thing after Justin was nominated for falling over the ball after being passed to. Harrison with a foul throw! School boy!! But the winner was Bullen whilst scoring 4 missed chance after chance.

Thanks to the subs aswell who’s attitude was fantastic and who all came on and put a shift in. Support again was very much appreciated. The pitch was looking great thanks to Graham Smith, especially after a surprise visit from the air ambulance on Friday eve. Thanks again to Quinny for running the line and after taking a lot of water on board before the game had no cramp this week. Hope the works night went well mate👍🏻

Thanks to the comrades club for the food where we celebrated Bullen and JPs birthdays with the obligatory birthday shots. Our illustrious joint manager Justin tho obviously couldn’t replicate his previous weeks heroics with the guiness and sloped off home early without telling anyone. Hope you slept well mate.

Next week we are home again but I’ll post details up during the week.
