oldasitgets Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 Delighted to report that Mpad, after becoming serial runners-up in this competition, won the Peter Hickey Cup today. Disappointed to report that Star was beaten in the Peter Hickey cup Final today. I suppose that tends to be the nature of finals- one winner, one loser. A good advert for Sunday football. both teams competed well and played hard - all in the best sporting spirit. The game was in real danger in the first five minutes as all three match balls were lost behind the far goal. At that rate, the game would have needed more than 50 balls for completion. Fortunately that rate slowed down and, eventually, the match finished with the same ball it started with. The game. Star scored first. Pidge lost out in a challenge at the edge of the box (Nothing changes!) and Jamie Mooney sweetly passed it into the far corner of the net. Within 10 minutes Mpad equalised through a Stuart Westhead cross that the keeper fumbled, taking the lead with a fine Graham Griffiths header from a corner. 2-1 at half time, with both teams evenly matched. Second half the bitter wind that favoured Mpad and brought snow, dropped and the sun came out. For about half of the half the teams were evenly matched. Then an under-hit back pass enabled Andy Davis to beat the keeper to the ball. As it ran clear it was slotted home by Stuart Westhead. Star visibly wilted and looked a beaten side. The final goal came when the defence failed to react as a ball ran loose from a free kick, leaving a one -on -one with the keeper that was coolly slotted home.4-1. Well refereed by Nigel Nicholls. Clear decisions, explained to the players. His two assistants George Pattison and Justin Moses supported him well. Trophies presented by super veteran Billy Lamin, who was clearly chuffed to bits to be given the honour. Thanks to Penryn Athletic for the lovely pitch and best wishes from all to David James.
Guest Postie Pidge Posted April 6, 2008 Report Posted April 6, 2008 Stuart Westhead's cross from the right was fumbled into the net by the keeper and Graham Griffithsis claiming a deft touch on a header from a corner just before the break. Westhead's shot from the edge of the box made it 3-1 and after James Page scuffed his free kick, Griffiths netted his second with a tap in from close range and for the first time probably ever scoring more in a game then his brother!

Mike Odgers Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 Stuart Westhead's cross from the right was fumbled into the net by the keeper and Graham Griffithsis claiming a deft touch on a header from a corner just before the break. You have missed one-what is the story for opening goal' Pidge'?
Guest Postie Pidge Posted April 7, 2008 Report Posted April 7, 2008 The ball was coming and I called for it, our right back headed it away from me and in a tangle, Jamie Mooney supplied a fine finish
