AFC St Austell v Polperro

Recommended Posts

First opportunity for me today to see a new look home team cruise to a comfortable 6-0 win over a hardworking well organised Polperro side.St Austell had a mix of last years players, some returning from other sides and a host of new signings.

The management team have already got them playing quicker from the back than last season and get forward in numbers.Width is clearly a focus and Shaw the full back signed from Newquay was outstanding, timing his forward runs perfectly and delivering an end product on almost every occasion. His well struck goal and four other assists, testament to his effectiveness.

Polperro got players behind ball but struggled to get hold of it and keep it ,as St Austell shifted the ball with pace and accuracy .St Austell pressed with good effect meaning that keeper Ashton was a spectator for much of the match.

St Austell supporters will have been pleased with the new signings and the depth of the squad seen today. The return of Martin  Watts and Liam Eddy bringing huge quality and experience alongside youngsters like Noah Teague. No Ollie B today nor Harvey Hann , who will bring added physical presence to what looks like being a very competitive squad in SWPL west this season.

Polperro will I’m  sure be a challenge for any opponent in St Pirans and will have learned a great deal from today.

The only slight downside  would be the injuries picked up for the home team in the first half with Liam Eddy and Tiago both needing to leave the field.Hopefully neither are too serious.

Nice to feel a buzz about the season at Poltair Park and a very enjoyable game to watch.
