The Town Man
Barnstaple 3. Falmouth Town 2. Enjoyable game at Mill Road yesterday between two quite equally matched teams which was ultimately decided by arguably a moment of fortune, and then a moment of magic! Falmouth started brightly and took the lead straight away with Cam Hutchison finally opening his account for the club cutting in from the right before placing his shot low in to the left hand corner of the goal. Hutchison was playing in an unfamiliar role on the right hand side of midfield in the absence of Ollie Walker who was unavailable. Barnstaple quickly got in to the game and equalised with a move down the left which resulted in a tap-in after a good cross into the box. The key goal and the moment of fortune alluded to earlier came with about 2 minutes to go of the half. Billy Tucker whipped in a cross from the right flank which beat everyone, including Ryan Barnes and ended up in the top corner of the Falmouth goal. But did he mean it? Into the 2nd half and the play started fairly evenly, albeit the home side seemed to be marginally dominating the midfield. Then Barnstaple went further ahead when the ball was picked up in the Falmouth half by a Barnstaple midfielder who lashed a magnificent screamer of a shot past Barnes to make it 3-1. Falmouth made 3 changes over the next 10 to 15 minutes and started to take the upper hand as both sides tired on an increasingly heavy pitch. Luke Brabyn, who continued his impressive form since being moved back to centre-forward, converting from close range. Further pressure was exerted on the Barnstaple back line during the closing few minutes but they held firm to the delight of their vocal home following. Well done to Barnstaple. UP THE TOWN!!
