Falmouth first defeat in 12 games and first ever SWPL Away defeat.

Falmouth controlled the first half at an exposed Erme Valley and should have had a comfortable interval lead .

Glen Squires rattled the cross bar from a free kick in the opening minutes but there was not a lot of urgency in front of goal considering the amount of possesion. The only goal came on 36 minutes when Matt Godfree fed debutant striker Adam Carter(From Saltash) who turned and placed the ball low into the corner.

Apart from another early Squires free kick, the second half belonged to Ivybridge who were up for it and it looked ominous as they forced Falmouth on the back foot for long periods.

A long stoppage when referee Martin Woolacott became unwell and was ushered off the pitch and soon after in an Ambulance to Derriford. The Ivybridge physio took over the flag but it caused dis approval from the Falmouth dugout as he was lining the Home forwards

The break didnt change the pattern of play as the inevitable equaliser came via the head of the big No.9 Jamie Middleton who connected with their 9th. corner after 78 minutes.

Two minutes later a diagonal free kick found Shaun Hulbert racing down the left unopposed to meet the ball first time high into the net.

A stoppage time one handed save from Turner who tipped a Cussack drive around the post was the closest Town came of salvaging a point.

Dave I think Phil H was keen as he was out on the pitch with the incident and he has come to the rescue this season when taking over line duties at the Exmouth v Bodmin cup match..

On reflection I said it was the Ivybridge physio but he could have been assisting the unwell referee-the only indication was that the Falmouth physio Michelle Roberts was attending both sets of players for the remainder of the match.

Perhaps Phil can verify.

The line was taken over by 1 of the Ivybridge youth team managers who is a qualified referee.

I had offered but the stand-in referee was happy that it was the home clubs duty to provide one in this situation. My main interest in going onto the field of play was to get the referee off the pitch, he was prepared to carry on despite having collapsed twice and looking as white as a ghost !

The Ivybridge physio escorted the referee back to the dressing rooms and waited with him until the paramedics arrived and as he was doing that it was cleared before the game resumed that the Falmouth physio would attend to both sets of players.

I am of course thankful to both physios and impressed that when needed the level of care and response was as I would have hoped, the paramedics were prompt in attending as well.

The referee in question phoned me late last night, he had been taken to Derriford and tests run before being discharged and he has an out patient appt on Monday at Torbay Hospital (closest to his home) the Referees People have been fully informed and will assist where they can.

Regards

Phil H

I simply mean those that concern themselves with the referees rather than clubs, eg : appointing officers, assessing officer and match officials director.

Guest Postie Pidge

The referee phoned me on Saturday evening and would like to thank Michelle Roberts, the Falmouth physio for looking after him. He was discharged from hospital as Phil states but on behalf of Falmouth Town Football Club I would like to thank him for making me aware of the situation and to publicly thank Michelle who gets no praise despite the good season the team are having.
