Cornwall Junior Cup

My father George Atherton was a good local footballer who died in Nov 2017 having played for Flushing, Mylor and Falmouth Docks.

Following my mothers recent death I have come into a watch fob that has a Junior Cup winners medal from 1923-1924.( marked D C F A )

I have my fathers medals that include a Junior Cup Finalist medal from 1945/6 but didn't realise that there might be someone in an earlier generation that also had a Junior Cup history.

Does anybody on this forum have any record of the teams in that final or, unlikely I know, any players names.

Ah! George Atherton...great fella and spent many hours talking footy with the man.

A bit of a legend in local football and top bloke as well.

Spoke to him and your mum on the seafront on their usual seat many times...sadly missed these days.

Thanks for the sentiments Dave, much appreciated. Mums funeral is at Mylor Church at 12 noon on Thursday 25th then at the Lemon ,make yourself known if you can attend.

Also for the info on the finals, second Dave.

Don’t know of a family connection in Torpoint so the mystery remains. Can’t remember Dad mentioning a 6-0 defeat either but why would he!  Would only have been 17 in that game but was captain of Cornwall under 18’s in that year.
