Two Nil to Saltash

Far play to Saltash tonight a quality goal in the first half ,

.Not much between the teams and a late second goal which probably flattered them as much as the 4-1 scoreline flattered Town in the game earlier in the season.

Over the 90 minutes Saltash probably edged it, a decent game of football .

I think the ashes boys, especially the 4 second team lads and the centre back that hasn’t played all season did extremely well.   Richards, Phillips, Maddison, Trott, Russell, O’Brien, Leary, Sargison were all missing  Having said that, the second half was nearly all Exmouth, and our second was against the run of play.

Great to see some of the youngsters coming through.

With eight first team squad players missing the task against a very good Exmouth Town side looked enormous but the Saltash players rose to the challenge.

Exmouth dominated the early stages of the match but only created one good chance in that time. With just over thirty five minutes gone Sam Hughes held the ball up just inside the Exmouth area for Dave Barker to run onto which he did and scored. After that goal the Ashes settled down and got more into the game for the rest of the half.

The second half Exmouth came out all guns blazing and dominated from start to finish but still never really troubled the Ashes goal.At the other end Robbie Powell in the the Exmouth goal had to pull off a couple of smart saves from Saltash counter attacks.Going into the last of the ninety minutes a mix-up in the Exmouth defence was seized upon by Shaun Cleary who slotted home past the advancing keeper to make it 2-0.

A very mixed Ashes side that included three teenagers the youngest being a 16 year old.
