    SALTASH UNITED v EXMOUTH

Wednesday October 17 2018 v Exmouth Town(home) The South West Peninsula League (Premier Division) Saltash United line-up:Ryan Rickard,Dave Barker, Callum Martindale,Chris Menhenick,Henry Wilson, Caleb Summerfield(Matt Cusack 60 mins),Shaun Cleary, Sam Farrant,Sam Hughes,Jamie Simmonds(Josh Tapp 90 mins), Danny Lewis. Unused subs:Dave Trott. Bookings:Farrant,Wilson,Simmonds. Result:Saltash United 2 Exmouth Town 0 Scorers:Barker (37 mins)& Cleary (89 mins). Attendance:112 Referee:Adrian Clements. With eight first team squad players missing the task against a very good Exmouth Town side looked enormous but the Saltash players rose to the challenge. Exmouth dominated the early stages of the match but only created one good chance in that time. With just over thirty five minutes gone Sam Hughes held the ball up just inside the Exmouth area for Dave Barker to run onto which he did and scored. After that goal the Ashes settled down and got more into the game for the rest of the half. The second half Exmouth came out all guns blazing and dominated from start to finish but still never really troubled the Ashes goal.At the other end Robbie Powell in the the Exmouth goal had to pull off a couple of smart saves from Saltash counter attacks.Going into the last of the ninety minutes a mix-up in the Exmouth defence was seized upon by Shaun Cleary who slotted home past the advancing keeper to make it 2-0. A very mixed Ashes side that included three teenagers the youngest being a 16 year old.
  2. Saturday 13 October 2018 v Westbury United(home) The Buildbase FA Vase Round 1 Saltash United line-up:Ryan Rickard,Dave Barker, Callum Martindale,Sam Leary,Lewis Russell,Dave Trott, Henry Wilson,Richard Maddison,Sam Hughes,Ryan Richards, Danny Lewis. Unused subs:Steve Sargison,Jamie Simmonds,Sam Farrant, Lee Phillips,Shaun Leary & Caleb Summerfield. Bookings:Hughes. Result:Saltash United 2 Westbury United 1 Scorers:Barker (21 mins)& Trott (62 mins). Attendance:105 Referee:Lewis Sandoe. On a very windy afternoon at Kimberley Stadium the Ashes pulled off a great result against Western Premier Division outfit Westbury United who have not dropped a point in the league so far this season. The Ashes opened the scoring on 21 minutes when man of the match Dave Barker got on the end of a fine move involving Ryan Richards and Sam Hughes and fired the ball into the corner of the net. Callum Demkiv made it 1-1 after only 2 minutes of the second half and the home support must have thought that this was the turning point of the game but not so. The Ashes once again got their noses in front just after the hour mark when Dave Trott scored straight from a corner. Wesbury threw everything at Saltash and everyone was thinking how long before an equaliser but it never came and in the end Saltash looked the more likely to score with Trott and Maddison going close.
  3. Tuesday 09 October 2018 v Sticker(Away) The South West Peninsula League(Premier Division) Saltash United line-up:Ryan Rickard,Caleb Summerfield (Dave Barker 73 mins),Callum Martindale,Lewis Russell, Danny Lewis,Steve Sargison(Richard Maddison 60 mins), Henry Wilson,Sam Farrant(Lee Phillips 67 mins),Sam Hughes,Ryan Richards,Shaun Cleary. Unused subs:Jamie Simmonds & Callum O'Brien. Bookings:Russell & Farrant. Result:Sticker 2 Saltash United 2 Scorers:Richards(86 mins) & Hughes(90+1 mins). Referee:Mark Senior. Two very late goals secured a point for the Ashes. For the first 20 minutes it looked like if Saltash could score 1 goal the floodgates would open up as they had most of the play but the Sticker defence held firm. With 21 minutes gone Ashes keeper Ryan Rickard made a rash challenge in the area and Sticker were awarded a penalty. The spot kick was saved but Ben Rosevear was quickest to respond to put the home side 1-0 up.Sticker now looked comfortable until Frank McAvoy was sent-off on 38 minutes. From then on until half-time Sticker had to defend deep and this they did well. It was all Ashes second half but they could not break down the stubborn Sticker defence. With less than 15 minutes to go Sticker had a free-kick wide on the left which was taken by Bobby Hopkinson. He shot straight at goal and keeper Rickard let the ball slip through his hands and into the net to make it 2-0. In the last 5 minutes the Ashes got a lifeline when Ryan Richards scored and then in time added on Sam Hughes forced the ball home to give the Ashes a share of the points.A Special mention to the young Sticker keeper Ethen Elwell who had a superb game under a lot of pressure.

    Sticker vesus Saltash

If "the ashes" are at full strength, can't see the losing.
  5. Saturday 06 October 2018 v Godolphin Atlantic(Away) The Cornwall Senior Cup(Round 1) Saltash United line-up:Ryan Rickard,Dave Barker(Caleb Summerfield(88 mins),Callum Martindale,Sam Leary,Callum O'Brien,Dave Trott(Henry Wilson 79 mins),Richard Maddison,Sam Farrant(Shaun Cleary 81 mins),Sam Hughes,Lee Phillips,Steve Sargison. Unused subs:Jamie Simmonds & Lewis Russell. Bookings:Maddison. Result:Godolphin Atlantic 0 Saltash United 3 Scorers:Barker(52 mins),Phillips 2(60 & 80 mins). Attendance:N/A Referee:R.Clarke. On a very windy afternoon at Godolphin Way Saltash played into the wind first half. The Ashes had the best chance of the first 45 minutes when Richard Maddison split the home defence but saw his shot hit the post. The rest of the half was very even but Godolphin could not take advantage of the strong wind at their backs. The second half saw the Ashes use the wind to their advantage and went ahead on 52 minutes when the home keeper Ben Mitchell failed to push a Maddison shot to safety and Dave Barker followed up the loose ball to score. On sixty minutes it was 2-0 when a good Ashes move found Lee Phillips in space to give the keeper no chance. With ten minutes remaining Phillips made it 3-0 with a header from a Sam Hughes cross and with just minutes to go Hughes lobbed the keeper only to see the ball hit the bar. A good Ashes win against a very hard working Godolphin side. The difference being Saltash used the strong wind better than the home side.
  6. Wednesday 03 October 2018 v Millbrook(home) The South West Peninsula League(Premier Division) Saltash United line-up:Ryan Rickard,Dave Barker,Caleb Summerfield(Callum Martindale 65 mins),Sam Leary,Callum O'Brien,Dave Trott(Henry Wilson 60 mins),Richard Maddison(Jamie Simmonds 76 mins),Sam Farrant,Sam Hughes, Shaun Leary,Danny Lewis. Unused subs:Steve Sargison & Lee Phillips. Bookings:Trott,Lewis,Maddison & Barker. Result:Saltash United 4 Millbrook 0 Scorers:Trott(28 mins),O'Brien(51 mins),Hughes(65 mins), Lewis(90+1) Attendance:104 Referee:Alan Bassett. On a misty evening at Kimberley Stadium the Ashes picked up all three points against Millbrook.Although the home side had the majority of of play they did not bother Chris Wearing in the visitors goal until the twenty eighth minute when Sam Farrant was pulled down just outside the Millbrook penalty area.Dave trott took the free-kick and blasted it into the corner of the net to give the keeper no chance and the Ashes the lead. The second half was six minutes old when from a Sam Farrant free-kick wide on the right Callum O'Brien headed home to make it 2-0.After about the hour mark Millbrook started to get into the game but on sixty five minutes they were caught pushing to far forward and a through ball from Dave Barker found Sam Hughed who slotted home to make it 3-0.Into time added on and Hughes had a shot blocked by the Millbrook defence but Danny Lewis picked up the loose ball and scored from close range. The game was well managed by referee Alan Bassett and both sides contributed to a very entertaining evening.
  7. Just for the records, "the ashes" were missing several players from the squad, Ryan Richards, Sam Hughes, Henry Wilson, Lewis Edwards, Callum Martindale, Lewis Russell and Chris Menhenick.
  8. No, not at all Baldy. It is not my report, it is that of a very kind gentleman who follows "the ashes". I simply post it on the forum.
  9. Saturday 29 September 2018 v Newquay(away) The South West Peninsula League(Premier Division) Saltash United line-up:Ryan Rickard,Dave Barker,Caleb Summerfield,Sam Leary,Callum O'Brien,Dave Trott,Richard Maddison,Sam Farrant,Shaun Leary(Steve Sargison 68 mins), Lee Phillips(Jamie Simmonds 76 mins),Danny Lewis. Unused subs:None. Bookings:O'Brien(Yellow). Result:Newquay 1 Saltash United 4 Scorers:Phillips 2(32 & 74 mins), Trott 2 pens(34 & 68 mins) Attendance:N/A Referee:Tony Rogers. A depleted Ashes side won this match with ease against a hard working Newquay side. The Ashes always looked dangerous going forward but it took until the 32nd minute for the deadlock to be broken.A strong run and cross from the right was met by Lee Phillips at the far post to force the ball home. Two minutes later and it was 2-0 when the impressive Richard Maddison was brought down in the penalty area.Dave Trott took the penalty and gave the home keeper no chance. There was still time for Maddison to see a shot hit the post and roll to safety before half time. The Ashes were a bit slow getting going in the second half but when they did it looked like the goals would start to flow. With 68 minutes on the clock a strong run into the home area by Danny Lewis was stopped with him being brought down and a second penalty to the Ashes which once again Trott made no mistake with. With just over 15 minutes left one again a Maddison shot hit the post but with the ball running loose Phillips latched onto it and rifled the ball home to make it 4-0 to the Ashes.Newquay did get a goal back on 81 minutes but it was to little to late.

    SALTASH UNITED v Camelford

Wednesday 26 September 2018 v Camelford(home) The South West Peninsula League(Premier Division) Saltash United line-up:Ryan Rickard,Dave Barker,Caleb Summerfield,Sam Leary,Callum O'Brien,Dave Trott,Richard Maddison(Shaun Cleary 69 mins),Sam Farrant(Jamie Simmonds 64 mins),Sam Hughes,Ryan Richards,Danny Lewis(Steve Sargison 85 mins). Unused subs:Lee Phillips & Callum Matindale. Bookings:Hughes(Yellow). Result:Saltash United 5 Camelford 0 Scorers:Richards 2(3 & 90+2 mins),Farrant(10 mins), Maddison 2(36 & 58 mins). Attendance:81 Referee:Matthew Carney. The result was never in doubt with the Ashes on the front foot right from the kick-off.It took the home side just 3 minutes to open the scoring with Ryan Richards hitting home from close range. On 10 minutes it was 2-0 when Sam Farrant turned in a cross from the right. It wasn't until 9 minutes from half-time that the Ashes went 3-0 up when Richard Maddison cut in from the left after the home side had taken a short corner and scored at the near post. The Ashes had to wait until 58 minutes were on the clock for Maddison to pop up on the right after a well worked Ashes move to cut in and score. On 80 minutes Camelford were reduced to 10 men when Charlie Hambly was sent-off for kicking out at Hughes after he was fouled. The Ashes made it 5-0 in time added on,a strong run and low cross from Dave Barker found Richards to score with ease. It was good to see young players given a chance with Caleb Summerfield now part of the first team set-up and against Camelford the introduction of another teenager in Jamie Simmonds.
  11. Friday 21 September 2018 v Plymouth Argyle Reserves(away) The South West Peninsula League(Premier Division) Saltash United line-up:Ryan Rickard,Dave Barker,Caleb Summerfield,Lewis Russell(Sam Leary 49 mins),Callum O'Brien,Dave Trott,Richard Maddison,Sam Farrant,Sam Hughes,Ryan Richards,Danny Lewis. Unused subs:Josh Tapp,Chris Menhenick,Jamie Simmonds, Matt Cusack. Bookings:Richards(Red),Trott & Maddison(Yellow). Result:Plymouth Argyle Reserves 3 Saltash United 2 Scorers:Richards 2(39 & 73 mins). Attendance:N/A A game that was fast and free flowing was a credit to both sides. The game was end to end with chances falling to both sides but the better ones to Argyle and they took the lead on 38 minutes from a strong run and superb finish from Alex Battle. The lead lasted just 1 minute when from a Sam Hughes cross from the right Ryan Richards bundled the ball home to make it 1-1 and that is how it stayed for the remainder of the half. The Ashes took the lead on 73 minutes when once again Hughes was the provider for Richards to score. The lead lasted just 2 minutes when Luke Jephcott scored at the near post.Just 7 minutes later the game changed when Ryan Richards was sent off for what was a wreckless rather than a malicious challenge on the Argyle keeper.Just 3 minutes later and Argyle took advantage of the extra man and take the lead threw Klaidi Loloas. With time running out what seemed to be a handball in the Argyle area and a clear penalty was given as a free-kick to the Ashes outside the area which the Ashes could not turn into a goal and so Argyle picked up the 3 points to remain top of the league.A good entertaining game for all the spectators for the encounter.
  12. Saturday 15 September 2018 v Axminster Town(home) The Buildbase F.A.Vase 2nd Quilifying Round Saltash United line-up:Ryan Rickard,Dave Barker,Steve Sargison,Lewis Russell,Callum O'Brien,Dave Trott,Richard Maddison(Ryan Richards 65 mins),Sam Farrant,Sam Hughes (Lee Phillips 65 mins),Henry Wilson(Shaun Cleary 52 mins) Danny Lewis. Attendance:86 Referee:James Hooper. The Ashes booked their place in the first round proper of the Buildbase F.A.Vase with a convincing 6-0 win over Axminster Town. The Ashes were 4 goals up inside 33 minutes. The first from Richard Maddison from a Sam Hughes cross.Sam Hughes was the provider once again with a cross that was turned in by Dave Trott.Goal number 3 was a real class act,a strong run down the left from Maddison who then played it inside to Henry Wilson who then played a short ball to Hughes who then played Wilson in to score.Hughes got himself on the score sheet with number 4 on 33 minutes when he was played in by Lewis Russell. After a slow start to the second half the Ashes got back into their stride with 2 goals in 3 minutes. The first was scored by Dave Barker after he was set-up by Maddison on 52 minutes. The final goal came on 55 minutes when the ball was handled in the area and Trott made no mistake from the penalty spot.
  13. THE BUILDBASE FA VASE SECOND QUALIFYING ROUND SALTASH UNITED v AXMINSTER TOWN KIMBERLEY STADIUM 15th SEPTEMBER 2018 3.00pm Kick-off
  14. Wednesday 12 September 2018 v Exmouth Town(away) South West Peninsula League(Premier Division) Saltash United line-up:Ryan Rickard,Caleb Summerfield (Dave Barker 66 mins),Steve Sargison,Lewis Russell (Callum O'Brien 66 mins),Sam Leary,Dave Trott,Richard Maddison,Sam Farrant,Sam Hughes,Henry Wilson,Danny Lewis. Unused subs:Matt Cusack. Bookings:Wilson(red),Russell & Summerfield(both yellow). Result:Exmouth Town 4 Saltash United 1 Scorers:Sargison(49 mins). Attendance:170 Referee:Thomas Anstice-Mitchell. Once again the Ashes made a poor start conceding in the very first minute.A free kick wide on the left fell to Ace High who scored from close range. In the first 15 minutes Exmouth could have extended their lead with 2 great chances but somehow the Ashes kept the score down to 0-1 at half-time.Saltash played good approach football but lacked a finish. The second half was just 4 minutes old when a Sam Farrant cross was headed in by Steve Sargison to make it 1-1.On 55 minutes the Ashes were reduced to 10 men when Henry Wilson was sent off for a late challenge. From the free-kick Jimmy Hinds made easy work of poor Ashes defending to make it 2-1 to the home side. With 20 minutes to go once again the Ashes failed to clear the ball from their own area and Karl Rickard pounced to make it 3-1. It only took the home side another 3 minutes to make it 4-1 when after an Ashes corner the homeside broke with speed and Aarron Denny out paced the Saltash defence to give Ryan Rickard no chance in the Ashes goal.
