Foxhole 0 Porthleven 6

Saturday 13 th October 2007

Foxhole were taught a lesson in movement and finishing by slick visitors who raced into a five goal lead by half time. Defensive frailty allowed Westgarth to open his account within 2 minutes, and he doubled the lead soon after, calmly despatching Lawrence's intelligent assist before completing his hat-trick on 20 from Thirkle's low centre.

Although often chasing shadows, the Foxes incredibly carved out enough decent chances to get back into the game: Holland fired over from 15 yards, Taylor smothered Nicholls' effort and Hill and Rowe each went close before Holland saw two further attempts float harmlessly wide.

By contrast, Porthleven continued to take their opportunities, Brewer netting the fourth and fifth within seconds of each other just before the interval, after further lightning quick breaks had torn open Foxhole's rearguard with embarrassing ease.

Rather more determined defending in the second half just about kept the scoreline respectable, although Westgarth grabbed his fourth on the hour from Lawrence's cross. The home team enjoyed a brief period of pressure and Rowe saw a fine effort on the turn saved, but overall the difference in class was palpable, only weak finishing by substitute Rogers late on preventing total humiliation.
