As well as a superb career in the movies as actor and director, he adored Chelsea FC and was instrumental in saving the club in the mid 1980s. I think this quote sums it up .. "In 2008 Lord Attenborough became Life President. On being handed a commemorative plate to mark the occasion, he said: 'I'll sweep the Oscars off the mantelpiece and put this plate right on top now.
