Good to see St.Stephens Borough get tanked

A bit strong with your words for your FIRST saying on this Forum.

Lets hope YOUR team does face the same result this year, or else

you may be reading the same thing about your team. Lets see if you

then like it. it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! By the way I am not a supporter of St Stephens

but of Bere Alston.

And why is it good to see them "tanked"?! Borough actually played well in spells last night, just didn't quite lack a cutting edge in attack. They seemed a good bunch of lads, good banter from their bench, and were very gracious in defeat with some players apologising to us for not putting up a better performance. If they stick together and show that sort of spirit,I'm sure a change in fortunes won't be far away.

BERE ALSTON UNITED 0 TAVISTOCK 1

This keenly contested local derby between two evenly matched sides was settled in the 90th minute by Tavy's young winger Jack Crago.

Tavistock started the brighter, but in truth there was little to write home about in a tight 1st half of very few chances for either side.

Bere dominated the opening 25 minutes of the 2nd half and Tavy's Jamie Castle made a smart save from a Dan Follett header, then Darren Phillips squandered Bere's best chance when he blazed over with the goal at his mercy.

With both defences holding firm and chances at a premium a 0-0 draw looked certain

Then in the final minute Bere's Ed Hillier got caught in possession by Ian Rook and the loose ball fell to Jack Crago who rounded Jack Dixon and slid the ball home from an acute angle for the game's only goal :( .

This was a massive kick in the teeth for Bere, who edged the game in terms of possession and chances and didn't deserve to lose but were once again punished for their only mistake.

Performance wise it was a big improvement on the game at Lanreath and defensively (the one mistake apart) we were pretty solid at the back.

We are clearly missing the extra goal threat of Jason Cordice but once we are up to full strength, hopefully his return will kick start our season ( no pressure Jas :o:wacko: )

Tavistock will be delighted with a start of 6pts and two clean sheets and fair play to them for that, but, although it's very early days, on last night's showing (without the fringe players from their 1st team), they do not look strong enough to challenge for the title.

Needless to say we wish them well for the remainder of the season  .
