Villa in Town

Recommended Posts

After 5 weeks of league inactivity at Bickland Park, Falmouth welcome Elburton Villa this Saturday 3pm.

The last Bickland home game of last season saw Elburton triumph 1-0 which in effect gave them the points that saved them from relegation.

This was followed up with a 2-1 over Town at Haye Road on the opening day of this season so Falmouth will be more than determined to redress the balance.

Interestingly all Falmouth league games Home/Away have shown an increase in attendance figures on the corresponding fixtures 2008/09 (with the exception of Clyst away).

So against Elburton on Saturday they will need to beat 84 and the weather is looking fine and settled for the weekend.

Also in the Elburton lineup is a certain C.Maskell.

I presume this is Chris Maskell who made a one off cameo appearance for Falmouth in 2005/06 when he came on as a substitute and scored twice in a 2-2 draw with Millbrook.

The story goes is that he was duly signed as a SWL player having had permission from the Plymstock United manager whose club had no Devon League fixture that day.

It however unfolded that Falmouth were found guilty of an illeagle approach and had their one point deducted by the SWL.

Subsequently this placed Falmouth down to third in the final table allowing Truro City to claim second spot on 70 points separated by GD +49 +43 and promotion to WL(1).

Truro then successively waltzed through WL(P) and SL(SW) -so getting out of the SWL was their toughest hurldle.
