After saturdays game, Portreath Combination team is currently looking for players, of all ages and playing styles, if you are looking to step up to senior football then we have that chance at the club, even if you dont know if you are good enough, then look at our results you cant do any worse than we are doing now!!!!

I probably shouldn't ask this - but did the players/club officials make the right decision in staying in the Combo league? Or would it have been better to have concentrated on consolidation in the Mining?

if i am honest with you, the club decided to keep the combo team going as it is the hardest thing to get your club into senior football, like some clubs know, we felt that trying to stay in senior football was the best choice as we could attract sponsors and attract players but attracting players is the hardest thing at the moment. most players want to play where there friends are rather than playing at a level they deserve, so i trying to attract new players to a club that there is no pressure to be a outstanding player, but to come and try out senior football.

And I admire the decision - absolutely right to stay at the highest level as you have done. It's just a shame some players don't raise their aspirations and try out Senior football. This is a great opportunity for them to try it.

thankyou dave, we know its gonna be a hard league this year, we just wish players would come give senior football a try, not just for the club but for themselves!!!!

if we do finish bottom of combination league this year we will still be mining 1 next year and hopefully that will still attract a new manager and players for next year!!!!

and you would have incurred a heavy fine for leaving the combo so late bundi, this must have helped make your mind up.but as dave said its good to see at least your club is prepared to give it a go. good luck at least some other teams in that league are in the same boat at the minute as the league table shows :wacko:

I don't like the way people say a player does not have any aspirations if he does not want to go and play for, in this scenario, Portreath.

Players have to consider travel, which makes local junior teams more attractive perhaps. Also important at this low level of football is your friends. Why would a player want to leave a successful or even mid-table junior side, having a laugh with your mates, to go and get spanked every week?

This is by no means a dig at Portreath, I think it's great that they are sticking to their guns and giving the combo a real go. Just makes me laugh that people get slated for their 'aspirations' in Cornish football at such a low level, maybe it would be a reasonable statement if a junior player were turning down a SWPL side, but the standard at the bottom of the combo has recently deteriorated in my opinion.

Exactly the reason its a shame that you're not playing in the Combo.

Many people are suggesting to me that it would appear questionable as to whether it should be labelled "Senior" for much longer!

Bundi I was at your game on Saturday and totally admire you and your players for what you're doing. As you said during the game "at least we're here and we're trying". In this day and age where players float from team to team chasing success it's nice to see some dedication. Your players know they're in for a challenge this season and are probably looking at a bottom of the table finish but they are still turning out and wearing their kit with pride and that is admirable. I hope some FHFL/Duchy/Mining players consider taking you up on your offer and wish you the very best for the rest of the season. :clapper:

thanks guys for all the nice comments, its great to have the players i do have, they are focused and determined just lack abit of believe you see they look good to start with then as soon as one goal goes in its flood gates open, two new signings this week should help us out but need more players so come on guys

Yeah mate, the idea was that I took it for pre season and then helped the new manager until I was fit to play again. Turns out the other manager had to work Saturdays and I found myself doing it all. I am happy to manage but unfortunately the attitude of some players has really dissapointed me, and I have issues like that to deal with at work from Mon-Fri, dont fancy it on Sat too!

Mate I'm still out injured and have another appointment with the specialist on Oct 6th, I dont know the rules regarding signing for teams but I would be happy to sign on and help you out when I can, and could probably get a few others to do the same. How many teams get relegated from combo? As long as you can avoid that this season you can then start to re-build!!
