Mike Odgers
Just heard the news of the sudden passing of Mervyn Caddy age 65.of Carnkie Mervyn was Mr. Porkellis F.C.(of the Mining League) in the 60's/70's and was their robust goalscoring centre forward. Deepest sympathies to his family and wife Maureen who were such a friendly and happy couple. I think his son/daughter in law had connections with Fourlanes F.C

Dave James
Yes another one of lifes good guys has left us Had many happy times with Mervyn during his playing days especially the Porkellis v Fourlanes games where brother Terry played and latterly with his involvement at Fourlanes Cricket Club supporting the village team at Clijah Croft while watching his son Jason play. Always willing to have a chat if you met him in the street ...and always had a smile on his face !!! Will be missed by his many many friends . Soccer Follower
Read about Mervyn's passing in the West Briton today. Nice guy who i also met up with again through work. In addition to a fairly long playing career,he also did a bit of refereeing and even sent off John Webster during one game. My sympathies and those of Chacewater FC are with his family at this sad time.
Guest Postie Pidge
Where did Porkellis play?
Soccer Follower
Usually farmer's fields in and around the village. Can remember one pitch which was about a 400 yard walk down the road from the pub and it must have had a 1 in 5 slope on it!

Silverdogfox
My best wishes to all his family Merv the swerve we used to call him and the Porkellis side was - a mans side you had to compete with them to even try and get anything out of the game - but they were always fair - just so strong Lots of good memories - now gone to play with all the other Cornwall legends in the sky I bet the pitches are good up there - better than all the ones he played on high on the hills
