Truro City FC v Burnham

Recommended Posts

Not wise appointing a ref from Cornwall; just to be on the safe side, you understand. Watkins's goal was one of the best I've seen this season. When he got the ball way out on the right wing thee was nothing on at all and no support in the box, but he just created the chance out of nothing as help arrived and the final shot was a pass into the net. Exquisite!

Truro City continued their impressive start to the season with a win over previously unbeaten Burnham to keep their top spot in BGB Southern League SW Div One.

City overcame the sometimes over physical approach of the visitors with some neat attractive football played on a superb surface on a very rare sunny afternoon infront of a very healthy crowd, leading marksman Yetton nearly found the net in the first sixty seconds but his shot just went wide of the target.

The Tigers did take the lead on eleven minutes when Scott Walker scored direct from a free kick his shot was crisp and precise and left Burnham keeper Southerden a helpless by stander, Truro constantly caused their opponents problems with fine wing play from Walker and Taylor but were unable to increase their lead before half time.

Infact it was the visitors who started to enjoy the majority of play in the last twenty minutes of the half although Rice in the City goal was rarely called into any serious action, on 38 minutes Burnham thought they had a good claim for a penalty after City defender McConnell appeared to upend striker Jordan Dowdican as he bore down on goal.

Despite various protests play continued and as the half time whistle blew Burnham's assistant manager was sent to the stands for his protests with the officials having to be escorted from the field of play by the clubs stewards.

The second half saw City create chance after chance as they dominated the half but the crowd had to wait until seventeen minutes from the end for the second all important goal created by Andy Taylor and converted by Yetton with a neat finish.

The result was sewn up on 87 minutes when the ever impressive Andy Watkins scored a fine individual goal, speaking after the game Chris Webb said " We always knew they would be a strong test but Sean and Dave have the boys playing some stunning football right now and we look forward to our next challenge".

We wont have to wait long as City entertain Chippenham at Treyew Road in the FA Cup nest weekend looking to proceed to the 3rd round of the cup for the first time in their history.
