## "Non-particle physics of QCD near the phase transition"

Treating QCD near the (would-be) phase transition temperature, the conventional perturbative approaches (eg. perturbative QCD, chiral perturbation theory) fail, because the theory becomes too strongly interacting. In parallel, the matter properties change from a gas-like plasma of the perturbative regimes to a fluid-like matter. We may still hope to maintain the small-coupling perturbative description in this regime as well, if we find the adequate degrees of freedom.

In the talk I try to argue that the adequate degrees of freedom of QCD in the critical regime are excitations with broad spectral functions. Being not on-shell particles, even a non-interacting model of them can show interesting, unexpected properties. I discuss the generic consequences for transport and present model calculations for thermodynamics.
