MIDWEEK FIXTURES - TUESDAY/WEDNESDAY 26TH/27TH SEPTEMBER, 2023

Recommended Posts

Torpoint Athletic 2 - 3 St Dominick

Wasn’t at the game but a bit of feedback. 1-0 up early and then 2-1 up at HT. 2nd time playing St Dom this season where we had a 1 goal advantage at the break. Losing skipper Westall in the middle of the first half then centre half Boyle around the hour still 2-1 up a blow and St Dom battled back to take the 3 points and retain their 100% record for the season.
Disappointing for us to drop points from a winning position and we’ll be frustrated. But sounds like we pushed the champions elect pretty hard and though we’ve nothing to show for it we’re already showing where we should be measured. Hopefully bounce back on Saturday away at St Mawgan which is yet another test.

Torpoint 2 Doms 3

A win that we dig deep for last night, the first 45 we really struggled fo to get any foothold in the game at all. After striking the bar, Torpoint took the lead after 10 minutes when a cross field ball found the winger and a shot from the left hand side of the box went in. We equalised when Kieran Ryall got round the outside and stood a ball up to the back post with Kane Thomas arriving to nod in from close range. Our main joy attacking wise came though Alex Jacob whose direct running was creating our main chances. Before Torpoint took the lead back after 35 - a sweet strike from 25 yards left Jamie Blatchford rooted to the spot and at half way no one could argue against the home side deserving the lead.

We needed a quick reaction after the break and nearly snuck an equaliser shortly after kick off as Calum Courts struck the woodwork. Blatchford followed up a crucial first half save to keep us in it with a low tip round the post before in the 65th minute some nice link up between Pete Styring and Jacob saw Jacob make the right decision in passing along the six yard box for Courts to equalise. 5 minutes later Francis Pengelly’s corner nearly dropped to Harvey Barrett to score but his blocked effort made its way to John Styring whose strike found the net. We then kept a far better shape than earlier in the game to manage the result out with Blatchford not really called in to action in the latter stages.

MOTM went to Jacob whose running caused a headache for the home defence throughout. Always a tough place to get a result and our fourth midweek away game in a row to the Mill. Although we struggled at times the second half effort through the squad was just enough to come from behind to secure the win.
