Ivybridge Town 3, Bodmin Town 1

IVYBRIDGE Town continued their pre-season preparation with a 3-1 home win over Bodmin Town in a well-attended friendly at Erme Valley on Thursday evening (July 13).

Ivybridge looked the superior side from the start and deservedly took the lead in the 23rd minute with an accurate shot from Jake Lane following a well worked move on the right.

Lively attacker Jack Alexander increased the lead in the 37th minute with his second strike in successive games after scoring the only goal in the previous Saturday’s 1-0 win over Wendron.

Connor Rush completed the Ivybridge scoring with a superbly struck shot in the 79th minute.

The usual spate of pre-season substitutions saw Ivybridge re-shape their defence in the closing stages which allowed Bodmin to grab a consolation goal through Billy Northcott in the 88th minute.

Although not managing a second successive clean sheet, Ivybridge have made an encouraging start with two wins out of two under the new joint management team of Wayne Gamble and Lance Bailey.

Gamble said: “It was a fantastic performance again and I can’t credit the boys enough. The hard work in pre-season is paying off on the field which is perfect for us.”

Ivybridge will be pleased with the number of chances they created throughout the game and Gamble added: “If we kept on the same 11 we started with you wonder how many we were going to score. But in pre-season you chop and change to mix up most of the side. It is great that we are going in the right direction.”

Next up for Ivybridge will be a visit to Porthleven, who play in the St Piran Football League, on Saturday July 22 (3.30pm).

Gamble says: “We will take a coach down there, giving the boys a chance to gel and mix. We have a lot of new faces in the squad this season, trying to merge in together so we will get down there and have a good day out.”

Already, the team spirit is building well in the new squad with Gamble explaining: “They have mixed fantastically, right from the off. The friendships are growing and we are pleased with the hunger and desire of the players.”
