Great result for Liskeard earning a point away at Forest Green Rovers who started the day top of the South West Regional Premier League, and two wins on the road in the Western Division for Saltash United and Sticker but the result of the day was probably at Bodieve Park where Wadebridge brought St Agnes’ 100% record to a close - with Penryn also winning away at Callington it’s beginning to look very tight at the top of CWFL Division Two.

Bude Town 1 - 4 Bodmin

A strongly contested game between two sides who were both a credit to the CWFL.

The Cornish mizzle and slippery playing surface meant both teams took a while to find their feet.  Some heavy early tackles slid in, threatening to make a mess of an already well used pitch.

But as the game developed the girls got to grips with the conditions and it was the hosts who took the lead on 19 minutes, as a chipped pass through the middle wasn’t picked up and the advancing Bude player ran through to beat the out coming keeper.   1-0.

It didn’t take long for an equaliser.  2 minutes in fact.  A low 21st minute corner sent in by Keisha Ellis skimming past numerous feet (none enough for her not to claim it, though!) to make it 1-1.

Bodmin gradually started to get the grips with play, and on 29 minutes Sophie Morford neatly controlled a pass before sending a looping shot from the edge of the box into the net.  1-2

Two minutes later and the lead was extended further, Aimee Thompson running through to face the incoming keeper, but managing to scramble the ball home. 1-3 at halftime.

The second half continued to be a battling affair, the visitors applying most of the pressure but the Blues defence resolute.  But with 15 minutes left a shot from the edge of the box from Aimee Thompson had the keeper well beaten to give her a brace and Bodmin an unassailable 4=1 lead.

The game ran its course in a similar manner, with Bodmin continuing to press and Bude resilient in defence without troubling the visiting keeper. But certainly a game where both sides knew they’d been in a battle.

Player of the Game went to Aimee Thompson … in only her second game after deciding to pull on her boots again, rather than watch from the touch line … after a 20 year break!

A game comfortably refereed by Chris Sillifant … always keen to keep the game flowing but never afraid to call the play back if advantage wasn’t forthcoming. (Not sure about the cap though!).

Big respect to all at Bude Town FC for allowing the game to be played, on what was an already well worn surface … many clubs would’ve said NO.
