Godolphin Atlantic 4--2 St Newlyn East

A classic "game of two halves"!

Godolphin came out the traps flying and were completely dominant for the opening 20 minutes with Newlyn under pressure, defending deep and on occasions riding their luck. The home side were 2 up in the first 30 minutes and but for some wayward finishing could have had more. Newlyn stuck to their task and pulled a goal back in the last 5 mins of the first half through a Liam Richardson header at the far post. Newlyn should have seen the half out without further incident but some defensive errors allowed Colquhoun to complete his hat-trick right at the end.

The second half saw Newlyn change formation playing down the slope and they became more competitive, pushing the Champions back deeper and deeper. Newlyn thought they had scored a second only for it to be disallowed. However Newlyn scored their deserved second through a calm finish from Ross London  and went in search of the equaliser as the home team started to look unsettled. Newlyn's Martyn Probert looked set to equalise only for a last ditch tackle to block his shot. Godolphin rattled Newlyn's crossbar with a hammer of a strike and as the Saints pushed for an equaliser The G were always dangerous on the break and it was from one of these that saw them awarded a 'soft' 88th minute penalty for Grange to finally seal the points from the spot.

Have seen and played in feistier local derbies against the G but was pleased with how we came back in the second half after our out-of-sorts first half performance.

Congratulations to new referee Tom Roper who had a baptism of fire for his first ever league game. Hopefully he keeps this going and will gain the experience from more games to become a top local referee.

Good luck to Rob, Dave and their team in their League Cup Final on Tuesday.

Thank you for the feedback above.

I enjoyed refereeing the game and thought it was an entertaining game, which could have gone either way.

Good luck to Godolphin in their upcoming final and good luck to St Newlyn East in their final fixture.

Many Thanks

Tom Roper
