  1. Only 2 players from the side that got promoted from Trelawney Premier a couple of seasons ago were still there, a couple moved on, but more worryingly the rest just stopped playing, which is a more worrying statistic. Sign of the times with local sport, not just football I'm afraid. People would rather do something else.
  2. To be fair, I said one goal would win it and I was right. Couldn't see anyone scoring, too many missed chances from both sides. Not a lot of quality on display, but just thought on balance of chances WC looked more likely to score. Wouldn't say anyone dominated the game, was fairly scrappy and even. I must also state that I have no involvement with either side, was just on my way home from work in Penryn so thought I'd stop in and watch a game. Mean to disrespect to anyone from either club. Just watch as a neutral these days! You could ask 10 people their opinion and they'd all come up with something different, as you say the beauty of football. Hope everyone has a great Christmas, and all the best for the rest of the season.
  3. Wendron 1-0 West Cornwall WC will be kicking themselves. Missed 3 or 4 good chances, including one of the worst offside decisions I've seen when through 1v1 vs the home keeper. Lino 15 yards behind play and not watching then stuck the flag up. I said I thought that might bite them on the arse, and lo and behold it did. A goal from Wendron about 10 minutes from time sealed the win. 1 goal was always going to win it, looked nailed on WC would get it but they didn't. Big 3 points lost.
  4. To be fair, if the ball had gone out it would have rolled up the hedge and over into the next field.
  5. Pretty much spot on from both guys that have reported here. WC could have been out of sight but for some poor finishing and good Goalkeeping. In the end I think they'll be happy to get a point equalising that late! Think they were possibly robbed of a winner due to a "close" offside given against them at the death, but that's life, these things happen. As for the young keeper blaming the ref, personally I thought the ref had a very good game. I've been out of football a while so not sure of his name, but a well done from me. All the best to both sides for the rest of the season.
  6. I haven't played there since last October so it's not really leaving! I've had a couple offers privately, one of which I think we've come to an agreement.
  7. Hi there. Due to work commitments I stopped playing football last October. I played for West Cornwall for near 10 years. As it stands I still work every other weekend, but am looking to potentially get back playing. Obviously it's not ideal only being available 1 in 2 games, but if someone doesn't have a regular keeper that I could be of assistance, then we could help each other out possibly. I live in Pool so would rather play in the Camborne Redruth area. Maybe this could be of interest to someone?
  8. Couldn't tell you. I'm not involved, just a spectator as and when work allows. That's what I would have said. Totally agree that a 1st team game should always be fulfilled before the 2nd team fixture, but in this case it's incredibly hard on the 2nd team lads that play every week, to not play in their biggest cup competition. Hopefully things improve and players start taking a look at themselves and become available. Unfortunately it's a sign of the times, and people would rather spend the day with their partners. Couldn't think of anything worse!
  9. Tell that to the 7 or 8 second team players that stepped up last week against one of the best sides in the league ?
  10. Went to take in the St Day vs West Cornwall game yesterday. On paper, I expected a wider margin, but have to say WC gave a very good account of themselves that belied their league standing. WC nearly took the league, a delightful lob catching the keeper off his line, unfortunately just drifted wide. St Day had the lions share of the ball, but their often use long ball into the channels didn't create anything more than half chances. WC were happy to let the Saints have the ball, and use their pace on the counter attack, which brought about the opening goal of the game. Jowan Kitchener put a lovely cross to the back post, and was bundled in at the back post. Some claims of a hand but could have hit anything! Saints kept pushing and eventually got back into the game, defensive error gifted them an opportunity that was well taken, via a deflection that probably would have been saved. WC then had another glorious chance but when 1 on 1, the striker lifted the ball over the onrushing GK and found the roof of the net. From the goal kick, the ball went up the other end, Saints won a fee kick and scored from the ball in. These things always happen when you're looking up the table! HT 2-1. 2nd half Saints looked to take control of the game and in fairness had most of the ball and looked the only team likely to score. Eventually they did when sub Cleverly cut in from the right and hit one through a crowd of players. After some protests about a possible offside, the goal was given. Saints had a few more chances to extend their lead, and WC had another great chance to close the gap but no more goals were scored a day it finished 3-1. Saints deserved the win, but that was a performance from WC that would have beat a few teams on the day. If only they took the early chances, it would have been a different game. Stood on the touchline I counted 8/9 players that could come back in if they wanted, that's a huge difference from last season, but the many 2nd team players that stepped up yesterday held their own, and credit to them for doing so. Shame others don't have that commitment. Easy to walk away when the chips are down, but if they play for each other like they did yesterday, results will certainly turn around.
  11. My thoughts exactly. Can understand people's frustration at having a ref taken away late in the week, but to suggest another team may be short of numbers as an excuse to not play is seriously clutching at straws. It's WC's prerogative to agree, or in this case, not, to a volunteer referee to take charge. There was an instance last season where they agreed to an opposition manager referee the game, away from home. During the game, the home linesman flagged to disallow a goal, then the away linesman flagged later in the game and the referee ignored it, after saying earlier he had to go with his assistant!!! So I'd say they are totally within their rights to decline, even if that means extra games later in the season. Frustrating, yes, but no blame can be attached to anyone here.
  12. Exactly how I understood it. We had a lad sent off at the end of one season. Next season, through other teams not able to play, no refs, weather (I know it was September but it's true) he had to wait about 6 weeks to serve a 3 game ban! Harsh, but that's his fault for getting sent off!
  13. That's how I've always understood it John. Can't use reserve fixtures as a way round it. Oh dear!
