shouldn't be in league if you can't supply showers after a games agree or disagree

Recommended Posts

Try being a female official. Some places i go if i want a shower i have to do so with the men. I don't complain because i go so the men can have a game of football not so i can have a shower, and i nearly always go back for a drink or two after the game. Doesn't do me any harm not having a shower until i get home :D :drink:

I agree with this posting, There are a few clubs that dont have shower facility's which is poor in this day and age.

I remember playing at newmoor years ago and they had a generator and pump to work there showers so it can be done with out an electric supply.

Also there are teams that you will come across that you get changed in one place then travel to the pitch to play (by car not a short walk) this surley is not good either.

Would like to hear other peoples opinion regarding this matter.

play at mount charles recently and they don't have any showers how does the duchy league allow this not right seeing pitch was wet and we were pastered after so all went straight home and didn't stop for drink and food just for this reason <_<

Some would say a lack of punctuation is more important than a lack of showers. Sort your spelling out before you come out with RIDICULOUS posts about some teams not having showers.

Showers are a must, you cant go back to the pub with mud and sh*te hanging off you then putting your hands in and lean all over the food, thats discusting!!!! If a team cant supply a simple thing like a shower and a dry place to change then why should i have to sit in a car for up to 2 hours travelling wet<muddy and stinking!!!!

We are nearly in 2009 not 1909!!!!

Some league's have rules where new clubs must have showers. I thought most clubs did have showers, although if they work or not is a different thing entirely!

I think a reality check is required here. You visit the odd club that can't provide you with a shower (I'm sure they wish they could) but remember them poor s*d's get that every home game you only have to suffer it once.

The thing to remember this is grass roots football and not every one is lucky enough to have the facilities that many have.

You should feel sorry for them and not sorry for yourselves.

It seems to me that there are some "Clatty" people that are quite happy not to shower after a game!!!! There should be a rule that says at all levels there should be adequate changing facilities and working showers! Im taking my team up to Stratton near Bude in the junior cup next week by coach, Now that is a 2 hour journey for us and i think that would be out of order to make us indure that caked in mud!!!! Luckily i have been assured they have this!!!!

Wouldn't it be wonderful if every pitch had changing facilities with showers.

The reality is that around HALF the pitches in Cornwall don't. (F.A Survey 2005)

What's worse is that Sport England and the Football Foundation ONLY support top quality facilities (Social area, huge changing rooms, THREE TOILETS FOR SPECTATORS!!) that are way beyond the means of a small club or a Parish Council. And, if they could provide them, they couldn't afford to sustain them.

Totally Stupid

And we're going to spend billions on the Olympics - a trough that only the elite will get their snouts in.

We functioned O.K at Nancegollan for about 20 years changing in cars and sheds. The reality is that there are only 2 or 3 days a year when the weather is so bad that it's really unpleasant. Clubs that are starting up may have nothing more to offer than a pitch. Are you going to chuck them out and stop them playing? Think!

Postscript; At Nancegollan we abandoned Sport England and the Football foundation and raised £25,000 to put our super, vandal proof low/no maintenance changing rooms, used by three clubs.

We still find that visiting clubs - usually with the younger players, will turn up, play in sloppy mud and still. never turn the showers on!

Sorry, a long complicated post but I have much to say on this topic.

Short answer - get real. Not all clubs, as much as they'd love to, can provide showers. DISAGREE.

Can't agree with oldasitgets more. In grass routes football you can't get a bloody penny from anywhere.

Seems if you have nout, you get nout. Perhaps if we hadn't wasted millions upon Millions building Wembly let alone chasing Olympic glory we might all be able to find a few quid.

Before anyone says anything we have showers, changing rooms, and yes even electric, dead posh but still bloody poor.

I dont think it should be a law. Some clubs just dont have the facilities or the money to be able to put them in. We used to play up at Maker church and barely had changing rooms let alone showers. But what could we do, we couldnt afford to put them in!! Its okay for the clubs who get all the funding but some clubs struggle. As someone said ealrier, i turn up on a saturday to play football, and if there were no showers who cares id rather play the game.

Luckily we play at millbrook now so have great facilities, but i dont look down on a team if they dont have the same, id happily travel an hour and a half in mud for a good game!!

Really guys, my team only have 1 shower to share between 2 squads. ( They seem to manage it every week), we get changed in a church community center. We never seem to get people moan about this and everyone seems to have an understanding that we are a new club and don't have anything fancy yet. Hopefully one day we will, but christ will be many many years down the line as we struggle to get enough money to pay for these facilities let alone enough to get something decent built.

Let me ask you... How many of you work on a building site?..... Now let me ask you.....How many of you shower before you get in your car and go home? Much the same thing if you ask me. Unless i'm losing the plot or everyone who is playing cornish football has become pencil pushers (which i really don't think so), lets get a grip!!! I'm sure you guys can wait an hour for a shower after a game.

ENJOY your football, and instead of wanting to throw these teams out the leauge, how about giving them a little support by getting off their backs; don't you think they are embarrased enough already, I know we are about our facilities. Unfortuanally not every team is having money given to them and like a few others have said before the government need to take a look at what they are spending the money on, a one off event or our kids futures in outdoor sports... Dicks...

Try playing at North Petherwin. NO showers, NO running water (hot or cold), NO electricity and the grass on the pitch is like a farmers field. They have a decent side, but to arrive at a ground after a 50 mile trek, be inable to fill your water bottles/first aid bucket, then not get a drink at half time and not be able to shower after a match is ludicrous. The FA need to look at some of these teams they allow into the league and if their facilities arent good enough they shouldnt be allowed to play.

The term "pencil pusher" is sooooo last century. I now prefer the term keyboard tapper. I am one and I work in a lovely warm office and thats how I like to get after a game of football, nice and warm under a decent spray of flowing warm water with some good company ;) I for one do not like the thought of either having to go home in my warm clean car wearing my dirty cold kit or changing from my kit into my nice clean clothes whilst still covered in the contents of a football field and going to a pub to socialise when everyone stinks. Its grass roots for you, not always great facilities but you gotta suck it in man up and get on with it. Dont like it dont play.

I do however think something of a decent standard should be provided, especially for new clubs and current clubs should have a plan in place to provide decent facilities.

Firstly would like to appologise about the term pencil pusher, probably a little harsh. Don't get me wrong i think it would be lovely if all of the above could be provided. In our league (min 3) though it's all about having a game of football. It was hard enough getting access to a pitch let alone decent changing facilities. Over half my team are either young men that are still at college or not really in the highest paid jobs, all of them have to pay each week to play or there wouldn't be a team. How much more do you think they would have to pay to be able to afford facilities as can't ever see anything being given to us. It's not Polo for the rich and famous!!!!!, it's football a working mans game. At the end of the day if you don't think that half the teams should be in the league just as there facilities aren't up to the standard of your own, i feel you don't appreciate how hard some of the lower league teams have to work just to keep afloat. Any1 from the more fortuante teams fancy giving a donnation to some of us lowly teams with not a penny to scratch are asses with, then maybe we can provide what your use to..... If you ask me it's about the football, got nothing to do with how many showers are provided, get in there get dirty go home have a shower easy, these guys deserve to play as well as everyone else.

i totally agree. We plaed up stratton the other day and had to get changed in OUR changing rooms at St breward, and didnt get a shower afterwards. Not sure if they have changing rooms at all. But i do know that if they did they wernt near the pitch!

I thought that Mount Charles do have showers? Is that where they use the school changing rooms?

Boosh, you could've got changed at the leisure centre just down the road. They allow away teams to shower there after as well. But as you said, they aren't within walking distance of the pitch. So most teams don't bother having a shower after the game. But they are available.

Boosh, did you go and watch the Mighty Boosh at Plymouth?

Sorry Gaff I certainly didnt mean to cause offence with my comments. I have nothing but admiration for those who run any club and certainly realise nothing is easy about it.From personal experience I am aware how much hassle just getting 11 players for a Sat afternoon is let alone everything else thats involved.

Just my liking that I like a shower after a game and am disappointed when not available.

Keep up the good work wherever you are!! :drink:

Seriously none was taken... I truly hope one day, that everyone and agree should have showers. I just wish that the government realised this too and instead of throwing phenomenal amounts of money at one off events e.g. 2012 that they realised that they are affecting our childrens future in outdoor sports. (As soon it will be law through health and safety).

Wish you all the best for the rest of the season, and hope you don't need to endure what my guys do each home game to much, cause as i said before it's fairly cosy in our shower room ( not for the bashful).

The bottom line is - whether there are showers or not - we love playing football

When I started playing the clubs that did have showers were definately in the minority - now most provide some sort of changing and showering facilities. Was not a lot of fun playing against Cusgarne and sliding through a cow pat - without the possibility of a shower after the game - no one wanted to give that player a lift home

gradually all the facilities have improved - although not as quick as we all would like

Having travelled across Europe - on business - I am always suprised by the quality of facilities provided by the majority of small communities on the European mainland.

Well in advance of many of the offerings we have to put up with.

It is not unusual to see stadia with lights small stand and an excellent playing surface in communities that have a comparable size to St Just, Carharrack,Camelford, Bude and Probus

Please dont take offence if you live in these areas I am just using them as a guide for community size.

A lot of people put a lot of work into trying to improve the facilities we enjoy (or not) However I believe that both the government and the FA should plough more money into improving basic facilities and until that happens the UK will always lag behing our Europen counterparts

Some of you lot should get a serious grip on things and stop your yamma

I would say that if you play at senior leval then fine yes you should have showers and facilities to boot but junior football is a different story, Years gone by a lot of us on this forum would turn up to games get changed in cars or transit vans go play 90 minutes of football have a good laugh a pint after and then go home have a shower then out on the pop so whats changed

Well i will tell you, some of you expect far to much from a game of football nowadays and you just dont know a good thing when you see it, For fecks sake get a grip will you i mean you get a game every week you dont play on the greatest of pitches (I wont name and shame but we all know which ones are not great) you moan about the refs and the lack of them and you moan about the fact that some clubs dont put on food and now you moan about the showers, Next think you know you will all want hair dryers/staighteners ironing boards and a taxi to and from a game

get in, you started the thread yet you did not go back for a drink just because of the showers i call than unsporting fella

Rant over im getting me coat and im off for a shower :SM_carton:

I'll be honest with you, Ive played Combo, Mining and Falmouth Helston football... And its very rare you find somewhere without showers! From where Ive played anyway. Sometimes there's like 1 shower you all have to share, other times there are very good facilities! No-one likes going to somewhere without showers! But it cant really be helped! Our clubs play where they can afford to play! If they cant afford showers, so what? They obviously arent as lucky as some other clubs! It does really bother me not showering, but crikey, Wash your hands, wash your face, go have a pint or two, then go home, have a shower before you go out for a great saturday night!!!
