DOBWALLS V WENDRON UNITED 1/11/08

Recommended Posts

After going so close to turning over Bodmin and Penzance in the last two games Dobwalls returned to winning ways with this comfortable victory over struggling Wendron at a windy Lantoom Parc...it could however have been so different early on if a speculative effort straight from the kickoff which landed on top of the net and then a smart save from 16 year old debutant Hyslop in the home goal followed by an even better save from the penalty spot after about 15 mins had not kept the score sheet blank at that stage.

Dobwalls eventually settled down and took the lead on 26 mins when another debutant Discombe scored from close range and then should have done better than clip the bar shortly afterwards both sides tried to get the ball down and play constructive football - Wilson - who became the proud father of twins earlier in the week- instrumental in midfield and carving out a number of openings for the home side.

The second half got off to a flying start when Dillon scored with a picturebook header from Mcphersons pinpoint cross and further goals followed from Bartlett's lob on 63mins and Hake's opportunist effort on 70 - there could have been more but for some woeful finishing - however the visitors still battled valiantly and never let their heads drop forcing young Hyslop to distinguish himself further at the other end.

With 15mins remaining joint managers Battems/Hodge sent on three more talented youngsters for a taste of senior football to complete a satisfactory afternoon for the home side.

Incidentally a mention for an excellant referee and to BOTH linesmen - not often that players and supporters all agree and give credit even when it is due!!!!

a couple of work commitments but mainly holidays and a wedding - can't understand people getting married or going on holiday in the footy season!!!! Still gave some of the under 18's a chance to see what they can do .....see the foxes are having a nice little run now - good point at Cally Dave.

GAM E SHOULD HAVE BEEN OVER IN THE FIRST 10 MINUTES AND WENDRON SHOULD HAVE BEEN 3-0 UP BUT AS NORMAL WE MISSED ALL OUR CHANCES. DOBWALLS TOOK THEIRS AND IN THE END DESERVED THE WIN. WELL DONE TO DOBWALLS.TIDY LITTLE OUTFIT

I hadn't watched Dobwalls play for several weeks and I was suprised by the number of new young faces in their squad, it is good to see a senior club giving the local youth a try when the chance arises.

I agree with Winno that Wendron had chances early on but Dobwalls missed two or three good chances before half time as well.

The second half belonged to the hosts who dominated proceedings although the young lad in goal did make a couple of fine saves to deny Wendron.

On another day the score could have been 5 or 6 each but if you don't take your chances whoever you are you will not win games.

Overall it was an entertaining game to watch and I agree with Pete Dillon that the officials did a good job.
