Guest mariner
After watching wendron v perranwell and playing in a final last season their facilities are better than anything i have seen in cornwall and the surface of their pitch is as good as penryn, maybe as a whole, overtaken penryn as a club? Just wondering if people agree!

Guest stealth
SO WOT UR SAYING IS IF YOU DONT LIKE THE WIND OR RAIN AND DONT LIKE STANDING UP IN THE OPEN, AND ONLY WATCH A GAME ON A SATURDAY AFTERNOON AS THERES NO LIGHTS,IF SO DONT PLAY AT WENDRON IS THAT THE ANSWER? WENDRONS FACILITYS R 2ND TO NONE
J MILLER
Peter Thorne and co have down a superb job at Wendron 2nd to none, however Penryn have won umpteen combo leagues and honours, Played and finished 4th I believe in the old SWL and SWL cup runners up and there may even be a charity cup win in there somewhere. If you asked anybody where they would rather play it would be Penryn, better surface as by winning the ground award for the last 10 years or so plus the lights and like for like changing facilities. I would agree that Wendron are on a upward curve but that upward curve would have to continue for quite a while before they hit the plateaux that Penryn are experiencing at the moment. I would say this was demonstrated recently when a small number of Wendron players wanted to move to Penryn but has gone abit sour which probably hasny helped their reputation in the football fraternity. Guest WINNO
IT ALL COMES DOWN TO ££££££££££££££££££ PEOPLE. WENDRON HAVE DONE GREAT WITH NO PAYMENT OF PLAYERS WHICH I THINK IS A TOTAL CREDIT TO THEM. BUT THEY WONT GO ANY FURTHER UNTIL IT HAPPENS. THEN HOW MUCH WILL HAVE AN IMPACT ON THE TYPE OF PLAYER THEY GET......
Rob
It has allways been policy at Wendron to promote from within hence one of if not the best youth setup in Cornwall, this avoids the issues of payment to players. It would not be possible to pay players anyway as the location limits factors needed to pay players. I must disagree and say that the facilites bar the pitch/floodlights are better then those at Penryn, four pitches, numerous youth pitches and top quality changing facilites e.t.c, In the future floodlights may also become a possibilty? sammo 66
we all know wendron have a great set up but they dont seem to be able to draw players down their i think last year three of their four teams finished near the bottom . i dont think its all about money i think location is a problem . if lets say you live in redruth or truro or penzance or even falmouth if you play for wendron every game is a away game . and another thing if you drive you obviously cant drink making socialising harder. gillo10
Think they are still "unfashionable" too as well as the location. I know when I was out there the management put in approx 50 7 day approaches in two season....1 signed! Great club though and would recommend to anyone! Guest jmac
in my opinion money has a massive part to play. i think there is not enough loyalty in the game, no matter what level you play at. i have been playing for wendron 15years despite only been 20 and i couldnt imagine playing for another club. during this time i have seen the club progress massively and am very proud to be part of Wendron United. the club does some great things for football in Cornwall. whether it be the famous sharon wood tournament or the claim of having a four adult teams all in their respective leagues. The facilites are second to none, but thats never going to be enough to attract players that will help the club challenge for honurs. Having represented the 'Dron at all levels i have seen a lot of players leave because of money. i dont hold anything against them for this, it is their decision. but concluding my point, i believe that Wendron has done a lot for football in Cornwall, many players from the youth system have gone to represent teams from all over the county, and they have learnt their trade at wendron. Like i said, players at Wendron are there because they love the club and because of the atmosphere there, i sometimes wish there was only more loyalty in the game instead of some clubs been used as a 'stepping stone'. Well said and very true Wendron is a great club i've been playing their for 3 seasons now in the 2nds and even last year after a very tough season the sprit in the team was amazing and thats wat makes it worth drivin from truro to train and play and if they did start paying players i do belive you wud lose that cos players wud only be their for money not the club. treasure parks no 1
i played pre season for st day and as i haven't played down there for several years i was very impressed with the facilities, changing rooms and ground vast improvement from the old cramped changing rooms and showers a big pat on the back to all concerned in raising money and all the hard work gone into making this one of the best grounds this side of truro. Saying that i still think Penryn for me anyway is still the best ground in Cornwall and the awards prove that.
Guest jmac
yes st days facilities have improved. but they are still not anywhere near the quality of wendron's. it is something for the club to be proud of, and i believe that it helps motivate the players who play for the club. it adds a degree of professionalism, and i think this is enough to help spur the players involved at wendron to improve on all sides recent league performances, and prove that wendron are a footballing force in Cornwall. in the years to come i think that wendron will be a major player within cornish football, and deserve to be so. after all, we should all be involved in the game we love because we enjoy it, not because it gives us a coupld quid to spend on booze on a saturday night! kitbag
congratulations to wendron on a wonderfull set,the facilities overall on a par with all incornwall but generally i think most people would argue that penryns pitch has the edge, dave baker really knows his stuff, but remember he puts in a lot of time that most of us cant afford to do.I think that credit is due to numerous clubs throughout the countynow as pitches have improved. The new pitch at camelford and the recent improvement to bodieve at wadebridge ,and i am pleased to say that the pitch at my club st teath in north cornwall is a credit to the groundstaff.Sorry folks but money will always talk among players but the facilties will always be down to dedicated club members ,lets congratulate them first and let the players do what they will.
