St Agnes 1 Mawnan Smith 1

On a rare still and sunny evening at St Agnes a fiercely contested game ended in a draw to bring down the curtain on St Agnes’s Season. The first half saw St Agnes have the best of the chances with James Thomas, Jimmy Gazzard and Jack Belche all shooting just wide of the goal whilst Andy Dyer rattled the crossbar with a fine effort. At the other end Mawnan also went close with several speculative shots as well as being denied by some fine defensive play from Cameron, Moulds, Murrish and Goundry who battled hard all evening.

The game turned around scoreless and with 20 minutes of the second half gone looked to be heading that way for the final score. It was Mawnan who broke the deadlock with a finely worked goal down the right neatly dispatched from 10 yards. The lead looked to have been extended before home keeper Tom Morgan stretched out an arm to push a goal bound effort wide and then denied Mawnan again with a reflex close range save. At the other end it looked to be a frustrating evening as fine build up play saw Paul Blake shoot against the post and Scott Hoare scuff a shot wide from close range. Then with 10 minutes to go a moment of class saw Andy Dyer collect a knock down ball and strike fiercely into the Mawnan net from the edge of the box. Both sides had chances late on and a draw was probably a fair result.

St Agnes: Morgan, D. Goundry, Moulds, Cameron, Murrish, Thomas, Gazzard, Barnicoat, Belche, Dyer and Hills. Subs: Hoare, Campling and Horsewell.

Pre season training will commence in Mid July any players interested in joining should contact Andy Goundry on 07967 743058 or email andrew.goundry@btinternet.com
