Launceston 2 - 2 Torpoint Athletic

Torpoint goal scorer: Easterbrook x2.

The same score line as last week with a desmond away at Pennygillam, but a far more positive feel to it. 2pts dropped obviously but I came away pleased with our play and did more than enough to win most games of football, but that's often been the story of our season.

In recent games we'd started really poorly but we came out of the blocks with far more intent last night and took the lead inside 2 minutes. A bit of a hopeful pass in the direction of Easterbrook was missed by the defender and he tucked it away for 0-1. We poured forward and again Easterbrook the main focal point then hit the post around 5mins in. Further chances for Easterbrook who drove a left footed effort low at goal was well stopped followed by a miraculous save by the home keeper from Westall from an acute angle on the right. Reminiscent of a Maicon goal from the byline a few years ago, frankly the keeper had no right pulling the ball back out with the power it came in, unsure if it crossed the line but would've been close. Could've been 2-3 up by this point but Launceston equalised with around 25 played through Elvidge with a neat finish after good work down the wing was squared into the area. An immediate response from us should've put us back in the lead, with Taylor finding time and space 10 yards out hit a tame effort too close to the keeper before Easterbrook restored our lead soon after from a Cam Ross assist from the right hand side. 10mins later Easterbrook again a thorn in the home side had his 1v1 effort saved too! Home keeper kept them in it first half. 1-2 at the break.

The early parts of the half were relatively uneventful on our part, as we didn't create as many chances. Launceston reduced their errors, and had an improvement going forward with the introduction of Cardiff for Oldaker who immediately gave Launceston a speedy threat out on the left and Elvidge moving more central. Ross was mostly kept quiet by the left back (Wilson I think?) and was changed for Halls, but Easterbrook remained the biggest threat, who skipped inside the right back and fired wide when had room to run into. The reintroduced Payn into the 10 role gave us a different off the ball option and his first meaningful run in behind was imo wrongly flagged for offside. Launceston then equalised around 75mins with a nice individual goal from Hudson, who turned back in from the dead ball line on the right and slid the ball under Sidey for 2-2. We then hit the post two more times with Easterbrook skinning the full back and driving a fierce side footed effort around the keeper to smash the post and bounce clear on 82mins then Payn staying onside late in the game side footed his effort past the onrushing keeper to hit the base of the opposite post. Another chance begging! 2-2 FT.

A shame to draw the game given the chances we had and truthfully Sidey didn't have any saves to make for us barr the 2 tucked away. But overall I'm pleased with how we played last night and was an enjoyable game. A big thank you to Ash who stepped in very last minute to referee the game when we had no one show up and I don't think it will be long before we see him officiate at this level. Just the one game remaining away at Saltash next week, which was also our curtain raiser back in early August. Feels like a long 9 months!

Entertaining game at Roche last night. Finished 4 Each.

Roche had a player sent off in the 12th minute. Liskeard player sent off in the 43 minute. Roche leading with a couple minutes to go , gave away a penalty which Liskeard scored to make it 4 Each.

Very well reffed by Stephen McCulloch.
