Chris Davey
Falmouth DC 2 Probus 5 The visitors had a good chance when a cross came into the box and Joe Emmett had a heading opportunity, but he missed timed his header. The home team took an early lead with a good finish into the bottom corner, but they weren't ahead for long. Justin Trebilcock took a long throw and Sam Bullen headed the ball home from close range. 1-1 at halftime. Probus took the lead early in the second half when Dan Vincent finished well from 18 yards. They increased their lead when the visiting keeper, Jason Chapman, picked out substitute Tyler Cheshire with a long kick forward and he lobber the onrushing keeper. Tyler Cheshire got his second when Sam Bullen crossed and Tyler finished from close range. Probus had another goal shortly afterwards when another substitute, James Holmes, took a long throw and a home defender glanced the ball home, for an own goal. The home team did get a goal back when a shot was spilled and the striker followed up to score. Dan Vincent was then brought down to give Probus another penalty.....and the end result was the same as so many of their previous attempts from the spot this season - this time is was Tyler Cheshire's turn to have his penalty saved. Overall it was a fair result, after a fairly even first half. Apparently (I've no idea if this is true but it's what someone from Falmouth told me) DC asked for the game to be played on the top, much smaller, pitch at Dracaena Avenue to help their game plan against Probus, and if it's true it probably didn't help them in the end, as 2 of the goals were from long throws into the box! The referee, Rodney Campbell, had a good game and there were only 2 bookings (both in injury time). Probus are away at St Keverne next week.
