  • Dave Deacon changed the title to RESULTS - Friday 29 & Saturday 30 December 2023

Not much is ever said about camelford on here but another great performance and result against bude last night on a very soggy heavy pitch. Very clinical going forward, taking their chances superbly and with camels front 3 looking dangerous on most attacks.
A resilient showing from their defensive line with bude only threatening from outside the box with wayward shots over the bar.
Bude definitely had the majority of the possession but just couldnt break camelford down even with camelford playing 40 mins with 10.
Reg has got a group of lads working hard for each other which is showing on the pitch.

Press Release from Graham Hambly

Ivybridge Town 6, Torridgeside 2

LEADING scorer Luke Forward hit a hat-trick as Ivybridge Town eased to a 6-2 home victory over Torridgeside in the South West Peninsula League on Saturday (Dec 30).

Forward brought his season’s tally to 18 goals from 18 appearances as Ivybridge continued their impressive run at the top of the East Division table.

They are now 12 points clear of second placed Crediton and 13 ahead of third placed Bridport, who were both without fixtures on Saturday. Ivybridge also have the advantage of a 66-16 goal difference of plus 50, which is vastly superior to their rivals.

They were on top from the start against Torridgeside with Chris Wright opening the scoring in the 13thminute, applying the final touch after Jack Alexander headed on a right-wing corner by Jake Lane.

Forward added a second with a shot in the 19thminute only for Torridgeside to pull one back four minutes later with Jack Magarotto firing home direct from a free kick just outside the penalty area.

Forward restored Ivybridge’s two-goal advantage with an angled shot after a great run on the right in the 41st minute.

Ivybridge kept up the pressure when man of the match Alexander made it 4-1 with a shot in the 50thminute. Two minutes later Jake Lane converted a penalty after being fouled as he made a lively run into the goalmouth.

Torridgeside were gifted a second goal in the 59thminute when some confusion in the home defence allowed Dean Hutchings to run the ball into an open goal.

Ivybridge finished on a positive note, however, with Forward completing his hat-trick in the 83rd minute, when he was perfectly placed in front of goal to add the finishing touch to a good move on the right.

Joint manager Wayne Gamble praised Forward’s contribution, saying: “Luke has been in and out of the side while we have been trying to mix things up and use the whole squad. He is finding his feet again now and getting back to a goalscoring run.”

Despite Forward’s hat-trick while playing wide on the right, the man of the match award went to Alexander who was a constant threat on the left side.

Gamble explained: “Jack can play a lot higher standard. He gave their right back a torrid time all game and sets the tone for our squad. He has been one of our best players this season if not the best.”

Ivybridge were forced to make an early change when midfielder Jake Smelt went off injured midway through the first half.

“Jake has been one of our stand out players,” said Gamble. “But he pulled something, possibly in the hamstring area, and could not carry on. So Owen Raven came on and was fantastic. He kept the ball moving and played really well.”

Ivybridge did well to get the game completed as a threatened heavy downpour began just as referee Mike Lazarus blew the final whistle.

This underlined the wisdom of advancing the kick-off from 3pm to 2.45. Gamble explained: “I spoke to the referee before the game and asked if we could kick off a few minutes early. Torridgeside agreed, which I thought was nice of them. It was a downpour right on the end. If that came in at half-time the game might not have been seen out.

“We have got another three points on the board and now go into the New Year top of the table and we deserve to be where we are. The other teams have got to catch us now. We are 12 points clear and, with the goal difference, that makes it 13 points.”

Ivybridge will be content to end 2023 on a winning note after a recent run of three successive defeats.

They returned to winning ways with a 3-2 away victory over Elburton Villa on Boxing Day with Gamble commenting: “The derby against Elburton was a tough one and I thought if we got through that game unscathed we could go on a little bit of a run and put a lot of pressure on our rivals.”

Next up for Ivybridge will be a trip to Newton Abbot Spurs on Saturday (Jan 6) when they will be without defender Jordan Powell and midfielder Dane Hewings through suspension.

It is fortunate that Ivybridge have a strong squad, a point underlined by Gamble, who said: “We know it is a squad game. Every single person in this squad is capable of starting these games and going on to win the title for us.

“The visit to Newton Abbot Spurs will be a tough one but we are looking forward to that match.”
