Launceston Cup Semi Final

DOBWALLS 3 (Steve Lee, Sam Humagain, Own goal)  

SOUTHGATE SENIORS 2 (Nathan Farrar, Liam Cairns)

Dobwalls eventually triumphed in the first Launceston Cup Semi Final overcoming the stubborn resistance of Southgate who they had defeated in another cup tie by five clear goals earlier in the year.

Southgate opened the scoring after 10 minutes when Nathan Farrer headed home via the crossbar from a free kick and had a couple of other chances to increase their lead but Dobwalls soon started creating chances and were guilty of missing three good opportunities, but Southgate defended well with some robust blocking.

Dobwalls’ equaliser came from a defensive error however when a poor clearance fell into the path of Steve Lee and he simply tapped the ball into an empty net. Three minutes from the interval Dobwalls took the lead when a cross from Sam Humagain was turned into his own goal by a Southgate defender.

Southgate levelled shortly after the break when following a good interchange of play down the right wing saw the ball put across the box for Liam Cairns to fire home.

Dobwalls started to have more possession and were awarded a penalty but Matt Smale saved the spot kick, however Dobwalls pressed forward more and Sam Humagain scored Dobwalls’ third goal to regain the lead. Southgate then exerted pressure on the Dobwalls defence and created two good chances late in the game but were unable test Sawyers  and Dobwalls secured a place in the final for the first time since 2001 where they will meet the winners of this weeks’ Semi Final between Altarnun and Boscastle.
