Camelford 3 Foxhole 2

Saturday 27 th October 2007

As good as we were against Liskeard, Foxhole were as bad this week as we somehow contrived to throw away a two goal advantage against a decidedly average Camelford outfit. Despite Griffin and Friendship being available, team selection was unfortunately ruled by the heart rather than the head; however, the unchanged line-up soon took control, as Hill raced onto Rowe's clearance to slot past his namesake on 13. Soon after Gusterson was booked for a foul on the ineffective Lean, Heywood tripped Holland in the area, but the referee waved away the penalty claims and then compounded his error by failing to dismiss Heywood for blatantly tugging back Hill when the striker was clean through.

Nevertheless, four minutes before the break, Holland capitalised on a defensive mix-up to double the lead and Foxhole appeared to be comfortable, having survived only infrequent scares around their box. However, they fell asleep on a quick free-kick and Cudmore slammed home from close range on 44 minutes.

This proved the watershed moment as Camelford were inexplicably able to boss the second half. Even the belated introduction of Griffin and Friendship failed to restore order as our play became increasingly ragged. An equaliser looked likely long before Ryan Holland missed Menhinick's 35-yard free-kick; within seconds, Cudmore had made it 3-2 with the Foxes' defence seemingly unable to react speedily enough to danger.

Fairclough, Morris and Griffin were all cautioned amidst unconvincing efforts to salvage a point, and, although Hill and Griffin each went close, the Camels were able to hold on relatively easily, Holland's wild slash over the bar in stoppage time typical of a woeful surrender.

Foxhole (4-4-2): Ryan Holland 6; David Grose 5, Richard Fairclough 5, Mark Rowe 6, Jeff Dillon 6; Jason Warne 5, Matt Lean 4 (sub. Richard Griffin 5), Colin Morris 5, Andrew May 5 (sub. Kyle Friendship 5); Scott Hill 5, Adam Holland 5.

Referee: Mr Graham Harris (Bradworthy) 6.
