County Youth update

It was another well attended Cornwall FA Under-18 trial at Brannel School last Thursday and manager Glynn Hooper would like to say a big thank you to all those 45 young players that participated, complimenting them all for the quality on show.

After the three matches that took place on the evening, Hooper and his coaching team had the difficult task of reducing the numbers down even further for the next trial this coming Thursday, which is also at Brannel.

For this season’s newly appointed manager it's a lot more than being the best individual :“It's not just a case of looking at the quality, but also ensuring we get the right combination. It's not always about considering selecting the very best player, but also who will collectively make a good team, for example centre-backs playing as a pair, a midfield combining together and as importantly whether individuals will be suitable to play in the system demanded.”

The next stage is another trial evening, this coming Thursday, which starts again at 6.30pm. The successful candidates for the evening will be notified by the CCFA on Tuesday and the evening will consist of three matches being staged and from that a squad will be named a couple days later for the first practice match, which takes place a week later, against a Plymouth Argyle Under-16 squad  at Truro City’s National League South ground.

To date Hooper has been impressed with the standard and quality seen: “Last Thursday went well. I've now  identified the players for the next trial evening when we go again with every intention to make things as professional as we possibly can.
