Dobwalls 5 Foxhole 3

Tuesday 21st August 2012

Squandering a three goal lead is, frankly, an even bitterer pill to swallow than getting hit for thirteen, but at least the opening half hour offered some hope to the ever dwindling Foxhole faithful. Dingle smashed in the opener from twenty-five yards after twenty minutes, Rundle then latching on to Faircloth's incisive pass three minutes later to coolly beat Beman to double the lead. Things got even better within four minutes when a fine move down the left resulted in Dingle's brilliant low centre being turned home from close range by Rundle.

Unfortunately the Foxes were unable to maintain their momentum and, shortly after being cautioned for a crude challenge on Robins, Knight broke clear to round Turner and tap into an empty net five minutes before the break. Right on half time Hake further reduced the arrears after Knight had won an aeriel duel with Turner, and, with the slope against them on the restart, the omens did not look good for the visibly tiring visitors.

However Foxhole were able to withstand the home pressure thanks to some fine saves and less than ruthless finishing until precisely midway through the second period when Knight outjumped May to nod in the equaliser after Hake had lobbed the onrushing keeper. May soon talked himself into the book before, with seven minutes remaining and incredibly with their fourth own goal already this season, Faircloth unluckily deflected Lawrence's corner past Turner, whose indifferent evening was capped almost immediately with a poorly aimed clearance which struck Hake and ballooned into the top corner.
