Dobwalls 2 Foxhole 1

Saturday 5th November 2011

Foxhole limped tamely out of the Charity Cup with a disappointing performance at sunny Lantoom Park, skipper Adam Holland's strike which flew over Beman from the halfway line on sixty-three minutes to make it 2-1 their sole effort on target. Only Notman's poor control prevented the home team from opening the scoring inside two minutes, but the speedy Hawes showed him how to do it a couple of minutes later, racing on to Eke's searching ball inside Faircloth to fire into the corner. Dobwalls dominated the rest of the half but found Ryan Holland in typically outstanding form, the big keeper denying both Notman and Eke on two occasions each, and both Frost and Hake in rapid succession. Other than Cunningham's low centre which found his teammates not sufficiently alert to tap home, the Foxes offered no substantial threat to the Richardson-Bromhead axis but, with the prospect of wind and slope advantage after the break, there was at least some cause for quiet optimism at the break.

Such hopes were dashed four minutes after the restart when Holland could only push Notman's weak effort into the net, the hobbling Trudgian's immediate withdrawal proving a double whammy. With Griffin serving yet another suspension the striking duties had fallen to Rundle and Gotthardt, but they were getting little change from the Dobwalls rearguard and precious little support from their own midfield, although both were to shoot half-chances wide shortly before Holland's brilliant goal from fifty yards. Rundle was twice to try his luck from outside the box, but the home team were always the more likely to notch the game's fourth goal, Holland redeeming himself with fine saves from Hawes and, in stoppage time, from Hook.
