Foxhole 1 Bodmin Reserves 1

Recommended Posts

1-1: Bodmin dominated first half and should have probably been 3 up, Foxhole played better second half and equalised through a penalty given by an extremely well placed Larry Marsh from about 58 yards, Bodmin's passing and movement was pretty good they were very comfortable on the ball, Foxhole seemed a bit thin on the ground they only had the one sub and a loanee from St Dennis.

Foxhole 1 Bodmin 1

Tuesday 10th August 2010

For the second successive match, Foxhole were grateful for a contentious second-half penalty to salvage a draw after a stuttering performance against youthful opponents whose team-play, movement and composure on the ball was vastly superior, and who possessed in former Fox Liam Ames comfortably the game's best player. With Conibear having departed, Foxhole could only muster a squad of thirteen, including Lee Rickard borrowed for the evening, while too many looked off the pace and reinforcements frankly can't come soon enough.

Bodmin attacked from the start and opened the scoring just after the half hour when Ames fed Jennings to beat both an unconvincing offside trap and the onrushing Ryan Holland. By then, both Harper and Ames had each wasted one-on-ones while Welch had seen an effort well gathered after Ralph had mistimed a clearance. The lightweight midfield were being outgunned, affording as they were far too much space to Dowling and offering little service to strikers as yet not on the same wavelength, so the Foxes had only Griffin's close-range drive which was dragged wide and Body's lob which flew over to reflect on at half-time.

Foxhole did improve after the break, Body and Griffin (twice) going close, although the best opportunity fell again to Ames who, from Rowe's assist down the Bodmin right, fired in a shot which Holland was equal to. Almost immediately, referee Marsh judged that Whetter had been pushed in the area by Rowe, and his Foxhole namesake confidently converted the spot-kick on 55 minutes. This stroke of good-fortune sparked the Foxes' best spell, finally causing some semblance of panic to the hitherto relatively untroubled Ahearn and co. Griffin turned Thompson before firing narrowly wide, while Rickard's fine low cross just eluded Whetter's desperate lunge at the far post. However, Vercoe was not called into serious action until ten minutes from time when saving a tame effort from a seemingly miles offside Griffin to encapsulate his frustrating evening while Bodmin appeared far more likely to grab a winner with some late pressure which saw Stiff try his luck from distance and Dillon bravely block a goal-bound effort from that man Ames.
