Cornwall Combination League

Penzance Reserves 0-3 Penryn Athletic Reserves

Penryn completed the double over the Magpies on Saturday and remain unbeaten at the top of the league. They didn’t dominate but just took their chances. Penzance tried to play their passing game but were weakened up front with the loss of a couple of key players and to be frank looked a bit toothless.

0-0 half time proved it wasn’t all one way but maybe tiredness, a change of tactics by Penryn were the Magpies undoing. Penryn’s Rob Warne arrived late, came on as a substitute and after that they were a much more potent threat up front.

Penryn kick off facing towards the entrance to the ground but Penzance get the first chance on gaol. A cross pitch ball, left to right sees Ross Badcock run in but his cross goal shot is just over.

Penryn then beat the off-side trap with a ball over the top but the resulting shot from 12yds goes over the bar.

A long ball down the left from Penzance, Lewis Caspall down to the goal line, lay off to Adam Fletcher but his low shot is grabbed by the keeper.

Penzance kick the ball out of defence, a Penryn player about 40yds out fires in a screamer that takes a wicked bounce just in front of the Penzance keeper and whips just over the bar.

The second half looks all one way with the number of chance reorted but wasn’t. Penzance could not break through the Penryn defence.

Penryn break right, cross into the box, a flick on is just wide of the back post.

52mins gone and Penryn get their first. They come down the left, knock in a low cross, the shot is palmed out by the keeper but Rob Warne fires in the rebound with a rising shot from the middle of the box.

Another Penryn break results in a lay off but the shot is over the bar.

66mins, Penryn go 2-0 up. A through ball turns the defence, one on one with the keeper. The shot is deflected off the keeper but the ball bounces to Matthew Potts who has a simple lobbed header from 5yds.

85mins Penryn go 3-0 up. A long ball into the Magpies area, it’s laid off, a left cross, a cross goal shot into the net from 10yds by James Daniel.
