cornishteddyboy
Only read if you are bored stiff. Cornwall Combination League 12th December 2009 Penzance Reserves 0-0 Porthleven Reserves All the action in this game could have been condensed into five minutes and we could have all gone home early. To say there was a lack of goalmouth action was an understatement. Penzance did try, but failed, to beat the Porthleven off-side trap and the Fishermen looked as if they didn’t know where the Magpies goal was. It was only the late sending-off of Penzance captain Liam Devine that got the sparse crowd really interested in the game or perhaps trying to find out who won the 50/50 draw at half-time as the winner never came forward. The first thing I wrote in the book was “first fifteen minutes very even and boring” and this set the tone with long periods where both teams cancelled each other out in mid-field.. During the first half Penzance managed three half chances whilst Penzance’s keeper Craig Nicholls must have been the most bored man on the pitch. On 15mins Penzance work the ball right to left. Max Davies runs down the wing, crosses and Devine in the centre of the box fires a shot wide of the upright. Penzance then break right, knock a through ball to Jowan May who runs on and shoots from the edge of the box. The Porthleven keeper has to palm away over the top for a corner. Penzance get a throw on the right, return it to the thrower, ball in high, header just wide of near post. H-T Penzance make a half-time substitution taking off Ryan Williams for Kim Smith. A couple of moments later Porthleven do the same. The closest Penzance get to scoring is a corner on the left take by Ashley Thomas to the back of the box where a goal bound header is headed off the line and away. Another Magpies substitution, Adam Fletcher on for May. Porthleven break, the ball is laid off, shot comes in from 20yds out, wide. Penzance free kick on the right, in high from Thomas. Davies in the middle of the box heads over the bar. Porthleven make a couple of substitutions. Devine booked for a challenge in mid-field and then 5mins later booked for a second challenge. Red card, 84mins. Darren Ball runs at the Porthleven defence, edge of the box, strong shot, keeper grabs at the second attempt. Game over. Man of the match – Darren Ball, marshalled the defence and during the second half went on daisy runs into the Porthleven half to try and get the attack going. Penzance – Craig Nicholls, Max Davies, Andre Otto, Charlie Jameson, Ashley Thomas, Darren Ball, Liam Devine, James Street, Jowan May, Chris Bullock, Ryan Williams Subs – Kim Smith (Williams 45), Adam Fletcher ( May 66), Joel McWilliams, Ryan Andrew Corners – Penzance 6-2 Porthleven (4-0 1st half) Fouls – Penzance 11-15 Porthleven Crowd – 37 (6 from Port)
