Perranporth 7 Foxhole 2

Saturday 10th October 2009

Woeful Foxhole were comprehensively outplayed by altogether slicker opponents and were fortunate not to suffer an even more humiliating scoreline. Able to muster only twelve players, including a palpably injured goalkeeper, it was always going to be difficult and Trevaskis could easily have bagged a hat-trick early on with better finishing. However, it was Foxhole who opened the scoring in their first attack through Rowe's great volley on twenty minutes, and he soon went close to a second with a looping header. Perranporth, though, still appeared to have two or three more men on the field, Gosling continually finding space and Lawrence proving a real handful for Kenny. Eleven minutes before the break, the visiting defence failed to deal with a long clearance allowing Davies to fire the equaliser at the second attempt, and almost immediately Trevaskis found himself clear only to be denied by Holland's legs.

Davies and Gosling may each have scored prior to the teams changing ends, and the trend continued within seconds of the restart, Gosling unable to convert Miles' cross. In a rare counter-attack involving Rowe and Ansell, Pinhammer blazed over but otherwise the home pressure was relentless, and Harris made it 2-1 on 52 minutes. Nine minutes later, Gosling's effort rebounded off a post for Goldring to force home despite the best efforts of Adam Holland, and soon the alert Davies headed Gosling's free-kick into the corner of the net. The Foxes were visibly wilting in the sunshine and it was no surprise when Harris took advantage of Holland's reduced mobility to hit the fifth with a quarter of the match remaining. McKellar's fine header from Kenny's corner briefly reduced the arrears, but Davies soon restored the four-goal advantage, capitalising on Grose's error. With eight minutes left, Andrew's pass was flicked in by fellow substitute Leete, who then wasted a golden opportunity for number eight by rolling his shot wide. Carpenter was at last summoned from the bench to don the gloves which at least prevented further embarrassment, but for the Foxes the final whistle and the sanctity of the world's tiniest away changing rooms came as a blessed relief.
