Foxhole 0 Newquay 0

Saturday 12th September 2009

With their best performance of the season, a fully committed Foxhole offered hope that they may soon start to climb the table, and can count themselves unfortunate not to have grabbed their first victory since March after first half thunderbolts from Rowe and Hazeldine each cannoned off the bar with Payne beaten. The home team started well and, with the visiting defence appearing less than convincing, both Carpenter and Pinhammer may have broken the deadlock with more alert finishing, while the visitors' lone striker Robertson was being well contained by Lawrence. Ryan Holland was not called into action until seven minutes from half-time when denying Middleton who had seized on Carpenter's carelessness, although Meens was soon required to bravely block Rigby's effort and Rogers ought to have done better with a close range drive.

Carpenter almost opened the scoring within two minutes of the restart, his flick header from Kenny's free-kick bringing the best out of Payne, before Newquay enjoyed their best spell. Rigby squandered a free header from Hunter's centre and Bradshaw broke clear only to blaze too high as the influence of Hampshire and Middleton grew, but the Foxes' dogged determination in the heat ensured Holland's clean sheet was rarely threatened. Meens and Adam Holland were magnificent and Ansell enjoyed his most impressive match for some time, while Pinhammer's selflessness was nearly rewarded in the eighty-third minute when he gathered Blatch's poor clearance only to watch his thirty yard lob fall agonisingly wide.

Foxhole (3-5-2): Ryan Holland; Adam Holland, Daniel Meens, Dexter Lawrence; Chris Grose, Sam Kenny, Scott Ansell, Nick Carpenter (sub. Tony McKellar), Lee Hazeldine (sub. Liam Nicholls); Mark Rowe, Ross Pinhammer.

Newquay (4-5-1): Luke Payne; Matt Wilmott (sub. Sam Hunter), Tom Hunter, Dean Blatch, Andy Morris; Glen Rogers (sub. Dan Carne), Ashley Bradshaw, Luke Rigby (sub. Orrin Crowle), Shaun Middleton, Paul Hampshire; Paul Robertson.

Referee: Mr Graham Allen (Mevagissey).

Good report that Darin, thought your no's 3 & 9 looked very impressive on the day.

However I think your goalie must have fallen asleep in the sun judging by his tan, I bet the poor chap was gutted it was a hot day ;)

Well done to the ref for keeping his cards in his pocket although it wasnt as "tasty" a game as it might have been with the possible exception of Hunter's foul right near the end.
